Trouble getting villagers to move out

This is a Wild World thread.

Next to having trouble to get villagers to move out in City Folk, I'm facing the same problem in Wild World. I can't get Gaston to move out. I try to ignore him, but he's still in my town! I want Roscoe to move back in, but Gaston is preventing this.

How do I get him out?

I think the main key is time - I don't believe there's a foolproof way. I thought I remember villagers pinging to move more often in Wild World, so try to wait it out. Eventually he should take his leave.
