Well, there's only a certain amount of plants you can plant per area, but based on the photo, there aren't much plants there anyway.. During my first month of playing, I tried planting Cedar trees in places and they just won't grow.. and then I found out that Cedar trees don't grow just anywhere. They only grow on the northern half of my map, so if I try to plant them on the southern half, they just die. It's the same as planting trees on the beach(except banana and coconut)
Yeah i have a a dead spot about 3/4 trees wide. But like marcko said there are a certain amount of trees you can have in an area, but also cedars only grow in the northern part of town down to the middle but its up to you to find out where the middle is in your town
Holy crap, I just learned A LOT of new things. I had no idea the cedars only grow in the top part of your town! Luckily I only planted them in the top part haha !

Haha no problem! But if you have a golden shovel perhaps the best way for you to find any dead spots or how big they are is to plant 1k bags witch turn into saplings so you can avoid wasting your cedars on dead spots but to find the middle mark you'll need to plant cedars to find out
If you've planted them in the north part of your town, they should be growing. The only thing I can think of are dead spots, they're random spots where nothing will grow. That's pretty bad luck picking two of them in a row.
Yeah, this has nothing to do with 'dead spots', cedar trees can only be planted and grow on the northern half of the map. I had to google this one time because I couldn't figure out why all my cedar trees kept dying despite the fact I was giving them plenty of space.
Did they always only grow in the top half of the map? I have had trouble planting them in other games too. I think the cedar trees are pretty and I would prefer to be able to put them anywhere.
On a similar note to not being able to put Cedars at the bottom, I hate how villagers can move in with their house not killing the tree 1 square away, but if you try to plant another one after their house/plot has been established, then the tree will just die. It is very frustrating trying to make an organized forest when you can no longer plant trees that match your numbered order.

By the way, is there a defined, specific line that divides the village in half and dictates where you can plant the trees? Or is it more of a vague sense of top and bottom that the game allows a little wiggle-room for?
cedars will only grow to about half way down your map.
its really just planting them and finding out where they go up to
for me they grow to about where the yellow line is
