Alright so I find tree shaking incredibly dull, but pine cones very exciting. I hope most of you know by now that you can just shake the same tree over and over, but because I can't be bothered to shake a tree, pick up the items, then shake the tree again, I have decided that there's an even better trick. It involves my other character.

For the few of you that want several stacks of acorns and pine cones: This is me sharing that trick. :D It's very simple, you just call the other resident first and put the characters in position like this:

Where the leader is in a position that allows picking up both the stick at the top and the acorn in the middle. Two controllers (or joycons), tap Y for the leader, tap A for the second player. Secondary player character shakes the tree. Leader then picks up the items. Then I just start watching videos or something, the pine cones slowly trickle in while I tap away. Multitasking! 🤷🏻‍♂️

This is also how I plan to craft 3000 tools, the acorns/pine cones are a nice bonus...

I'm curious if anyone has other ways to gather industrial amounts of materials? Because I would definitely be interested!

I usually single player forage, but this looks like it’ll streamline the process! I know what I’m doing tonight lol

I’m usually of the sort to raid mystery islands to gain resources. Right now in spring there’s really no way to beat the system other than to plant a metric ton of bamboo (-(ε )- ) winter’s materials are easily farmed by having a wide open space for snowflakes to spawn in (I’ll need to remember that for cherry blossom season).

Ah, that's great! Because I think I should easily have the fruit selling achievement by the time winter arrives, so then I can tear the fruit tree farm down again and I'll have plenty of open space. That's a good thing to keep in mind! :D

It’s also a nonnegotiable to have open space for snowboys if you’re interested in the frozen set (my current layout would be horrible)

I have a question, do trees have limits on the pinecones per day or could you just shake the same tree for hours and have more eventually keep pooling out?

No limits at all! That’s why I love this season a the most (alongside the fact that the raw material can work well as a decoration)!

Awesome!! I always stopped after like, 6 shakes because I'd get nothing and assume that was that and move onto the next tree.
There is a limit of 3 for wood though right?

That's great advice! ...but I have a Switch Lite and I don't think I can play with two separate characters at once 😅

But lately I'm currently TTing in November (late November now) so my method has been shaking trees like a madwoman until the clock hits :X4 or :X9, then heading the beach to look for those balloons, lol. It makes it a bit less tedious to have two things to do at once! I also ALWAYS keep my net out because it's maple leaf season in late November and I want to farm those, too.

This speaks to me. The reason to create a second character has dawned for a sea of pine cones.

Love that you have this down to a science @Mick

I used to always visit mystery islands to stock up on materials -- not a fun or quick process. Buying materials I need has been my go-to whenever I need them, but then the satisfaction of "paving your own way" is lost. No cool tricks like this! 😭

Might I add that getting in the right mindset would help?

Step 1: get angry. you deserve these pinecones.
Step 2: find your source and shake the tree down.
Step 3: if the tree refuses to drop materials, threaten to chop it down
Step 4: you might attract unwanted attention; stare straight into the villager's eyeballs and ask what're they looking at
Step 5: if tree drops materials; slap the ground with bug net and let out a mighty warcall

Alt Step 6: if nothing works, slap the ground with bug net and scream. Then take a nap before repeating.

Sorry, I know I'm not helpful, lol.

Good to know! I’ll be sure to follow this when I go foraging tonight!

I stick with one pine, and one regular tree and I get ten acorns and ten pine cones a day in very little time.

The sticks are annoying, but you don't need to change trees.

Good tips. Maybe I'll use the tree's own sticks to build a circle of campfires around it. The added threat might help convince it. 🤔

My S/O shakes trees in a small section where they're concentrated on his island, and I pick up whatever falls. Division of labour. :)
