I'm trying to create a foresty looking town but I can't seem to grow any saplings. I try growing them in areas with very little amounts of trees but they'll still die. Is there a certain distance apart they have to be? I've visited towns which have so many trees it's rather crowded. I attemped to create a large circle (or more of a hexagon thing) out of trees but the saplings keep dying despite room to grow.

I want to create a nice little area near the cafe so I tried to planting some saplings near the wall around the town, I'll make a little diagram.

o = space/gap/hole
x = where I want to plant the sapling but it keeps dying
| = wall

o |
oxo|

So there's about one shovel hole of a gap around each sapling, which I assume is enough room to grow.

Sorry if that doesn't make sense. Thank you!

I don't plant a lot of trees in my towns but I know that cedar trees won't grown in the lower half of a town.Is that what you're trying to plant?

as the user above mentioned, cedars wont grow in the souther parts of town, so if you're trying to grow cedars, that might be your problem.
there are also spots called "dead spots" where no trees will ever grow (same applies for bushes, iirc), no matter how many times you try. Providing your trees are planted at least 1 space away from other objects, this could possibly be why your trees are dying.

Yes I was actually trying to grow cedars, I had no idea they didn't grow at that end of the map!

That's a bit of a shame as I like the look of cedars, I'll try planting those oak saplings(?) and see how they turn out.

Thank you both for the help! :)
