Hey all! So my friend and I have been trying to hook up our AC:NL games and each time he and I try, we get error code 018-0511. He has followed all the instructions on there and still no luck. I've been to many other towns and have yet to occur this issue so I'm asking the great folks here. Have you gotten this error code and if so how did you go about fixing it?

Thanks!!!

Error Code: 018-0511

----Situation:

This error code typically indicates an issue communicating and matchmaking with other players.

This is often caused by network firewalls blocking necessary network traffic.

This can be caused by your network, or the network of the person you are connecting with. If these steps do not resolve your connection issue, have your friend try them as well.----

I saw the above when I Googled the code. Are there firewalls?

When I've had this error it's always been a poor wifi connection. You're connecting to other towns with no problem, right? Can he connect to other towns? My guess would be his connection is the problem. the 3DS seems to need a really good signal or it won't let you travel (for example, if I'm on a so-so network I can access the web through the 3DS, and I can see who's online, but I can't travel in AC).

Just to clarify it is his connection. I have been able to connect with others. He has not been able to. His router is in the next room over, not even 10 feet from where he usually plays. I certainly hope its not the connection of his router. We both dabbled with the firewalls, but we don't entirely know where to create an exception. I've looked it up and have gotten no where from that (in addition very confused).

Does his 3DS connect to wifi at all? can he download through the eshop, for example?

If he can and this is a specific New Leaf problem -- I did once lose my ability to connect after visiting someone whose wifi crashed repeatedly. I had to remove all connection info from my DS and then register my wifi on it again, then it worked fine. Have him try that?

If doing that doesn't work then it's going to be the actual signal and I really have no idea.....:(

Could the router be blocking the connection due to not having registered the DS's MAC-address as a safe address that is allowed to connect?

He tried resetting his info and that didn't seem to help at all. His 3DS does connect to the internet, but he has never been able to connect to other people. How would he add his MAC-address to a safe list?

Sorry for such a late response- I have been too busy to get in contact with him and test the game again until now. Thank you all for trying to figure this out with me!

My problem with that code is when I'm at college and the wifi there doesn't allow us capabilities like traveling back and forth over internet between games, like AC. So maybe that's what's wrong? If you're in college also, then that's probably a 95% chance of it being the same problem as mine.

I have gotten this before. But only when I try to visit some people. They can visit me just fine.
