Transfering 3DS, but keeping cartridge save on old system

So I currently own a Nintendo 3DS XL. I have a few games on the system itself, but mostly have cartridges. I'm currently loaning it to my girlfriend, who has been playing Animal Crossing: New Leaf Welcome Amiibo and Happy Home Designer (both on cartridge).

I just bought New Nintendo 3DS XL for myself, which would require me to transfer the old 3DS to it to get some of the games I have. I'm a little concerned about the Animal Crossing data, since I know doing the transfer would involve transferring my NNID as well.

My question is this: Will my girlfriend's save file still be okay to use on the old 3DS XL, and will she still be the mayor of her town? It saves to the cartridge, so I don't have to worry, right? Will putting the cartridge in the old 3DS XL do any damage to the save? I'd like to know this in advance, because we can always share the new 3DS like we're doing now with the old one, since I don't play Animal Crossing.

I don't THINK so. Because I mean, people turn in their old games to video game stores and the saves are still there. I don't know for sure, but I think it might be safe.

If it’s cartridge, you can switch out between systems no problem ^^ I’ve played my cartridge copy on a 3DS and 2DS, and there’s also been no conflict with playing the cartridge on a system with a digital ACNL copy, too.

As long as It's a cartridge it is safe to switch between devices. :)
