I don't really like the idea that people are actually "Buying" villagers like items, and how much do they normally go for anyway? Over 1 mil?

I just usually stick to "exchanging villagers" and "villager giveaways", but I never go to buy a villager. Your guys thoughts on this?

Everyone has their way of obtaining villagers. Some people aren't lucky to have someone give them their dream villager, or have a villager that someone else wants.

I think people should stop making such a big deal out of buying/selling villagers. I see this huge debate about the "moral issues" of it on my tumblr dashboard all the time and I'm seriously just sick of hearing it.
AMG, someone exchanged a virtual animal for virtual money/items. The cruelty!

I never really liked buying villagers but it really depends on the seller.
If I'm desperate, I'll go buy a villager if it's cheap. But I'd rather exchange than sell/buy.

Exchanging villagers for bells/items is "safer" than trading for another villager because you get your payment right away, since some people don't TT. Seriously though, it's a video game, I don't understand why some people get all in a tizzy over this.

That too.. I am personally very afraid to exchange villagers because of this. I would rather sell some villagers and make a lot of bells, then purchase the villager from someone else with the bells I earned that way.

I know.. There's something about AC and it's community. A lot of lovely individuals are sweethearts, and then there are the people who play differently. And then there's the people that put themselves on a pedestal because they are so purehearted and make a big deal about their personal choices in playing a game.

Like guys, can we just like respect each others choices to play the game how they see fit? All of this is perfectly fine to do other than the outright wrong things like duping. Sigh...

Sometimes it's hard to find a villager. Some of them are very popular and get snagged very quickly. Some people are very unlucky and can't find villagers they can trade for the ones they want.

With turnips, it's easy to get 'rich' pretty quickly especially when you have the amount of resources most people have. There's stalk markets on many forum communities including this one. I don't see what's wrong with buying a villager if you cannot obtain it through other means.

As for prices, I've kinda aquainted myself with that thanks to gamefaqs although I'm done with selling villagers because I do feel like it's demeaning a little bit and it's also pretty tedious.

It depends on the villager, how 'rare' or common they are, how popular they are etc. I've seen horrors like Pinky go for 3m, but usually people will buy the commons anywhere from 100k-1m. Anyone a bit more exotic will cost you a pretty penny.

Recently I sold Rosie for 30m, though I've seen her go for over 75m. Stitches easily garners 50m+, I've seen Apollo sell for 10m+, Julian 25m, Goldie 7-10m, Punchy/Bob 30-50m, Mira 20m, Marshal 30m, so on an so forth..

Sold Zucker for 55m. Now I don't ask money for villagers.

I'll add to my last post, by the way, that what does bug me is when people say that if they don't get an offer on their villager they're just going to let them move out without going to anyone's town. What is the point of doing that? Why?

Okay, that is kinda dumb and self-centered.

Meh..items are pixels, bells drop on floor as pixels that have value, villagers are just pixels...they're all just pixels :S Pixel for pixel is a fair exchange I suppose. A lot of points have already been brought up. I auctioned off a spare Coco from my other town. She didn't go into the abyss. My rule of thumb is that people offering a price obviously values the villager at said price. It's not entirely harmful. If villagers could get upset at us "selling" them then I'd scold them for re-selling gifts I gave. Like seriously, rude much!

I think the most annoying thing about the villager buying culture that's happening, is a lot of people (mostly on other sites) refuse to part with villagers unless they're paid. I was trying to get Anabelle (anteater, not very popular) from someone, who decided I couldn't have her unless I paid in sloppy/princess furniture, even though she didn't want her anymore and nobody else had contacted her about the villager (and were extremely unlikely to do so). I understand paying for highly sought after characters, but charging for normal low-tier ones that nobody else wants is ridiculous.

I totally see where you're coming from now.

I would imagine desperate dreamies [like the top tier ones] would go for 2-6mil, and popular ones go for 1-3mil and so on

but are lower teir villagers even worth money? [Barold might as well be 100 bells lol]

Hah 2-6mill...top tiers go for 50mil+ >.< Which is why I spent a whole night of town resetting to get just ONE dream villager move to my other town. Even if I had that kind of bells I'd think twice about parting w/ 50mill.

But usually low demand ones are just seen given away or no one bids on them.

What do you even DO with 50m aside from buy other villagers? Like doesn't upgrading to a mansion only cost 7m? Even if you had four mansions you'd still have an insane amount of money remaining.

Apparently creatures that have precoded lines of dialog are worth more than customizable fully upgraded mansions

I just think the whole debate about this is silly. We all payed money for this game so we should be able to play it however we choose, without being judged.
How is it affecting you if other players buy villagers? Some of us have a goal of a dream village, and if that includes trading or buying villagers, then that's what will happen. I don't see why it's a bad thing.

I'll share a secret with you guys. They are not real animals. o_o Mind blowing, I know. It's not real money either. It's really just exchanging goods for goods. Supply and demand effects all markets so yeah, some villagers will go for a lot of bells. I just bought bob for 15 million. Why? I freaking love him. We all play the game the way we want to play it.

I am laughing so hard. That was a pretty good jab there.

Me personally, I guess I'm lucky. I've only ever given away or been given my dreamies for free. Then again, I'm not seeking any of the popular ones for cash. Honestly, I wouldn't know what to do with all that money so I never do it anyway. I saw Octavian in my campsite and literally let him go because I didn't care.
