I've got a piece of paper all set up with each villager on there so I can just write it down what they want there later when they talk about it. I would use the game notes, but that got over run with Harvest Moon stuff.
Sorry about bumping this thread up. You do not buy the toys for your villagers. During the month....it will take more than a day...they will tell you what they want. Normally they seem to like to tell you while they are in their house. Visit them. They will say for instance..."I want something gray." Next time you talk to them they will say..."I want wallpaper." The two clues are important as some gifts are very similar. You do not get to keep the bag that Jingles brings. I had a villager move in on Toy Day and very carefully I gave out the gifts I was sure about. There is no rush to talk to Jingles, though he does linger until you do.
