Recently I've caught myself planning everything in my town. I have paths everywhere and I even started plot resetting all the villagers in neat rows. But I have come to the realisation that I actually like unorganised, natural towns better. Also, I am running out of space in my town. The paths and flowers are taking up all the floor space and I can barely see the grass anymore. So I was thinking of maybe removing all the paths, but this would take a lot of time so I want to be sure of my decision. I am thinking of making my town look more natural. What do you guys think? Do you prefer towns that are completely planned or not? Do you prefer natural towns or town that have paths everywhere? Or do you prefer to have a bit of both?

Thanks for reading.

My main town is planned, with brick paths put down and flowers/shrubs outlining/surrounding the paths. I definitely know what you mean about limited space - finding appropriate places for my PWP's can be a challenge, but I've made it work so far.

My second town has no brick paths, but I've arranged my trees in ways that make sort of natural paths. But it's definitely much more open, more free, and it feels like I have WAAAAY more space to work with. Placing PWP's isn't an issue at all. And when I plot reset to place villagers that I know I will be keeping, I usually only have to do it 1-2 times because there are so many places that just work. In my main town I have to restart 10-30 times sometimes just to get them somewhere that isn't on a main path or garden.

I prefer the look of my main town... I've never had the effort to put brick paths down before, so I'm very proud of it. But I do like the simplicity of my second town. I guess that's why I decided to do one of each, lol.

My town is mildly planned, I like to put down some paths and PWPs and keep my flowers neat (even if I suck at that so they're completely out of control) but I like it to feel more natural and unplanned instead of planning absolutely everything. It just looks more spontaneous that way and I think it's more of a challenge.

What you do depends just on what you like. If you like a more planned look, go for it, if you think you'd have more fun with a more unplanned town, you should do that instead. It's your game so you're the one who is supposed to have fun playing it. :)

I really don't like the overly planned types of towns. I think they can be beautiful, but I get so claustrophobic and lost way too quickly. I like the way I've done my own town, with pathways (and yeah I plot reset villagers, but I don't like the row look. I just try to get them to a good spot that isn't in the way of anything else) and a few PWPs here and there. It's a work in progress, but I think I like the openness of it.
If you're considering ditching your pathways, that means you're unhappy with them regardless of what you do. Maybe change the type of path? My path is a single pattern with a clover pattern to break it up now and again. It leads to a more fluid path design, instead of the type that takes like two player characters to even set down.

I agree with what most people seem to be saying: slightly planned towns are better than unplanned or overtly planned towns. In my town, I plot reset to make sure that villagers are moving into reasonable places, and I'm using PWPs to make cute little areas like a garden and a park. But I don't usually like the feeling of paths, or flowers and trees everywhere. It feels very claustrophobic and fake to me. At the end of the day, this decision is obviously up to you. Do whatever you feel will make you the happiest (:

I agree with this one! I like paths that look sort of irregular. I've been experimenting with paths a lot lately and I tend to like paths that look more natural, like several rows of brick with weeds growing between them here and there, or stones that look like they've been worn down by time. It just looks more natural to me.

My town is VERY planned, VERY path-y. But I have a lot of open space. I don't like towns that are crowded with lots of bushes...where it's a maze and you can't run without getting stuck in a corner.

I like natural towns too, but I appreciate the work that goes into planning a town.

The one thing that makes me doubt my town a little is the lack of grass. I made a little nature corner and put down a bunch of clovers to simulate grass, but so I wouldn't have to constantly worry about fossils and things growing there. IDk if that makes any sense, but the point is, it's still organized but natural.
