My boyfriend is giving me his copy because I use it for cycling and holding my villagers.
I'm not sure what I'm really going to do with it yet.

I wanted to do a Batman-themed town (it's funny because he's a huge Marvel fan and I'm a DC fan), but I'm not even sure how exactly I'd go about that and I feel like I'd just be copying someone else. I've thought about a zombie town, an "Island of Misfit Toys" kind of deal, and then my last idea was to make a town based off an abandoned city, especially Pripyat or Centralia, because I'm into urban exploring. My boyfriend lovingly calls me Chernobyl (more or less because of my weird fascination with it and Pripyat) and I've been toying with that idea for a bit, but I don't want to come off as insensitive or trying to make light of such a horrible tragedy that is still impacting the people/environment around the fallout site. I just have this bizarre fascination with it. I've also thought about making a town based on the movie Pet Semetary.

How did you guys come up with themes for you town?
Did you all stick to them, including villager wise?
I've never really successfully pulled off a theme so I kind of want to try.

When I started, I didn't really have any theme in mind. Right now I have couple game based town ideas and a food town (not that original idea but I like it, and I love the food themed villagers) or a town with villagers that aren't "real" (like Peaches, Stitches, Ribbot etc) and it would be themed around that idea. But sadly I only have one copy of ACNL and I don't have the heart to reset my current town u-u

shirohibiki actually has a batman themed town called arkham lmao

I did a candy theme in cf once and gave up on themes forever hhhaha

I didn't have a theme for my main town either; I kind of just went into there blind, lol. SugarOak is just like, "Hey, heard you like cuties so here's some cuties." My second town is kind of like a little forest town and the third one is going to be candy themed (yeah, not the most original idea either...) one. I don't have the heart to reset any of my more "developed" towns.

I know! Lol, when she told me about it, I was like, "That's the best idea ever." I just really love Batman, ha!
I don't think I could pull that off or any theme honestly. I just find whatever I like and try to squeeze it into a town, hoping it works. I wanted to do a candy themed one for my third town but there's TOO many options and it's overwhelming.

I don't really have a theme. It's a sort of small village kind of feeling and natural.

When I orginally started my town, I wanted my town to be Ghibli themed. I'm sure I'll still have elements of that, but now I'm just working on making a normal town done nicely. I'm not very good with designing towns or anything so I'm working at it bit by bit.
Some kind of fallout style town would be awesome though. I have fascination with Chernobyl as well, and I would definitely visit.

both of those sound cool

My town is based on Touhou Project.
Each house is based around the character with Reimu's basement for Cirno and every room in Alice's house being based on one of the residents of Scarlet Devil Mansion.

If I do the Pet Semetary idea, I could name my town Ludlow (I believe that's what the Maine town was called) and I could move Kiki in to symbolize Church, the black cat who started it all. I could get little tombstone qr codes and keep my town in fall or something?

Omg make a Gage zombie character

YES! I was thinking about making him as well. I know he could wear the kid's smock; but I'm not sure how to make him look like a little zombie, lol. I know he wore that hideous black velvet outfit when he came back so maybe I could find that?

Might have a whole house full of creepy bat and regular stones.
And yes, Ludlow was the name.

I really want to put this idea to work, ha!
I'm trying to think of what else I could include. I wish it featured more animals coming back.
The sequel wasn't too bad, but it wasn't the best it could've been.
I know there was a huge dog in that one that the kids brought back after it got shot.

You could also add the dead trees you get when you harvest too much perfect fruit. I'm sure there's a better guide be somewhere but here's what they look like:

So I think I'mma end up going with a Chernobyl-inspired town. I love Pet Semetary and I've gotten so many great ideas, but I'm a bit limited in game to cater to that I think. That and my fascination with Pripyat and wanting to visit it myself one say (even though it's closed now) kind of won. I just don't want people thinking I'm being insensitive to what took place. I've done a lot of research over the years and saw what happened in the aftermath. Just have a weird obsession with abandoned cities, amusement parks, and all that.

I don't think I've ever heard of a Batman-themed town so that sounds original to me, and a really neat idea. You could make it a broader theme by making it superhero-themed or comics-themed as a whole. Agent S would fit right in, I would think!

I feel like the Chernobyl idea could be disrespectful, yeah (though urbex is awesome, go you). I think you could just make it a sort of post-apocalyptic town as a whole, with abandoned and decaying looks in an industrial sort of way. I don't know if you like exploring in factory sites and such but that could be neat if you do.

A zombie themed town sounds a bit more predictable to me but you shouldn't let that determine what you're doing! If you do it well, it doesn't matter if it's been done before since it can be even better or have differences that are more specific to you, it's a broad enough theme.

Thanks for all your feedback! And yeah, maybe I should just make it more post-apocalyptic/fallout then directly referring to Chernobyl. I'd feel horrible if it was taken the wrong way. I'll have to come up with a new name, but that shouldn't be too hard. The town hasn't been established at all yet thankfully. My Ukrainian friend was gunning for me to go for it as well and she was telling me all about how we grandparents had lived there; apparently there's a large community of people with the same (for lack of a better word) fondness of Chernobyl. She didn't see it as offensive and a bunch of her Ukrainian friends have been PMing via FB with ideas and helping me translate articles and giving me little history lessons their relative gave them on the incident. But I don't now. We'll see. I don't want to step on any toes or come off as an insensitive jerk.
