Touchy subject: How have other people reacted to you playing AC? (if you're 16+)

I'm 18, and my boyfriend who is 23 actually bought the game for me! He knew I loved the previous animal crossings and wanted me to have something to do while he played xbox. I show him all of the things I accomplish in the game and stuff, he thinks it's cool :) my mom jokes around and calls me a dork but I wouldn't say I'm "judged" for playing lol

I'm 22. I've never had anyone react negatively towards me playing AC... but Pokemon is another story :P

I'm 16. The only person that actually judges me is a friend of mine because he thinks the game is boring (he only played it for like 10 minutes though). My mom doesn't like the sound it makes but she doesn't really care most of the time. A lot of people I know actually really like to play Animal Crossing and play other versions of it. The other day in math class this guy actually asked me if Animal Crossing was fun and seemed slightly interested in it so I guess it's not really a problem where I live.

I'm 19 and I play the game here and there in college when I'm eating lunch. >u< No one says anything really, they just think it's cute and there's no judgmental remarks. They obviously don't understand when I get excited over something in the game though (like when I was yelling at them when Julian moved in lol). The only remark I've gotten is from a friend who thought the game was boring so she ended up giving her copy which I use as a cycling town. uvu

I'm about to be 30. My partner and my close friends find that me playing Animal Crossing is a cute and logical consequence of my personality, and they obviously like me the way I am, so that's fine. :) My parents are OK with me playing any game or buying any toy as I'm a grown-up and can do what I want, however they do judge "wasted time", which is why I don't tell them how much time I actually spend with it… haha.

I would not like to tell my coworkers though, or any acquaintance I'm not close with. I like to keep random people knowing things about me / judging me to a minimum. However, even if they did know and secretly judged me (they wouldn't do it directly or offensively), I could deal with it.

It's probably different when you're younger and in school. So, the good news to all you teens is, when you're older, people tend to care less and you can do what you want more, even if it's playing kids' games :)

I'm 17 and from what I can tell, PLENTY of people in my age group play it (as I streetpass all the time at school kekeke) and whenever I pull it out, there's usually no negative feedback (Unless they're telling me to put it away and spend time with them lol). My family isn't judgmental at all, but that's probably because they've played AC on the GameCube...

But yeah! If anyone's gonna judge you for playing, they obviously haven't played and/or has serious issues. Either way, ignore them and do you, boo boo!

Awwwwwwwww! All of these comnents have made me feel so much better. Idk why it bothers other teenagers or my parent's. I work out everyday, do all of my homework in AP classes, eat healthily (actually im on weight watchers, but thts for another forum), I have friends, I do chores, and im basically a productive person whose planning on majoring in Neuroscience o.o so to whoever makes fun of me out there. Oh well, because number 1: im preparing for a future of a good life and number 2: " those who mind dont matter, and those who matter dont mind" - Dr. Suess

Ahhh, happy birthday! Your tale is so lovely c: Animal Crossing rocks, I'm really amazed and envious at how much you've enjoyed with it.

I'm only 23 years old, but I'm currently working at an office where three other people play 3DS games. AC:NL is actually my first game in the series, but I've known about it ever since it came on N64 and I've been waiting a long time to play it.

My coworkers view me with amusement, especially since I often play the game during break and tend to bring up the game in conversation. My brother, about seven years older than me, teases me about it. All of my gaming buds are guys, and, quite predictably, the only thing they ask me about the game is whether or not it has violence in it! Psheesh. They seem to think of me now as some kind of crazy cat lady, except with fluffy, digital villagers. I say, they don't know what they're missing.

Thank you for the nice words, I'm a nurse and am working with a little girl right now whom I introduced to Animal Crossing Wild World. I love it that there is NO Violence in this game. And it does give me a good feeling when I play. MY whole family plays but my Oldest grandson, he is more into racing games.

Thank you Kay, I do remember computers with DOS floppies, And I'm sure there are not many who do but that's OK it is what makes us all individuals. I really didn't get into playing any video games until after my husband died, because he was very judgmental and would not have approved of me buying such a frivolous TOY that only I would be using. My daughter had to buy her own Nintendo 64, way back when, She is going to be 39 the end of Feb. But now I buy her game systems and games when she needs/wants them. We are going to have to visit each other's towns. Take care and Happy Early birthday.

Bobbi, happy birthday! I am going to be 65 in March and I have been playing games since that Adventure game they used to include on the DOS floppies. (Does anyone even know what that is anymore?) Anyway, I'm with you...age and experience have their advantages and one thing I love about being an "older" player is that I don't have to care what others think about my hobby. If anyone looks at me funny I just tell them that I am counting on my video games to keep my mind sharp when I reach 100 years old. :-)

Kay

No one has ever judged me for playing it. I'm 22.

Now video games are considered popular, due to the spread of mobile electronics. 10 years ago, you might have been the only one playing a video game somewhere, but now its typical to see a lot of folks play candy crush or angry birds.

Haha, I'll be 18 this year.
Well, nobody knows except my family. Duh.
I don't even tell people That i have a 3Ds. Well if somebody asked me, I wouldn't mind telling.

Here in AZ, most dudes or dudettes with 3ds' have AC. My non Nintendo gamer friends are cool with it. So I'm all good

I'm in college. I get plenty of weird looks if I pull my DS out in the library, but generally the people I make friends with are more than willing to go a round of Mario Kart or ACNL every now and then. ^^

I'm 16 so I guess I'm still a kid kinda but nobody judges me, In fact like 99% of my friends play animal crossing.

I'm in my late twenties and no one cares. I think that what people are saying about teens being more judgmental about that kind of thing is true. Probably because you're becoming an adult and trying to seem more mature. Adults just don't care.

I turn 16 this year, so...

I have at least 7 friends who have played Animal Crossing and love it. (4 guys, 3 girls)

This.

Adults don't care. It's just a video game.

That's probably true in most cases. I wish it were in mine. Earlier in this thread I posted that my aunt is just plain nasty to me and says hurtful things when she sees me play. I don't know why she takes it upon herself to care, but I don't like being in my late 40's and having someone else tell me what I should do with my spare time. :(
