In your opinion, at what point does someone have too many popular villagers? Obviously the person can do whatever they want with their towns, but sometimes I see people with Stitches, Ankha, Lucky, Marshal, Julian, Beau, Diana, Marina, etc. Do these people actually enjoy their villagers or do they have them for the sole purpose of popularity? I use my dream suite a lot, and I feel like i'm seeing the same town/residents over and over again. I know i'm a little hypocritical having 4 deer & Marshal, but i'm currently trying to replace Deirdre & Erik with Tammy & Joey. I feel like lesser known villagers would be refreshing idk.

I have the villager in my town that I find cute and yes, they are the popular ones :D But I will let some of them go if I get their picture but I will keep some too

I do agree with you, sometimes I wonder if people actually want those villagers because they like them or because they're popular.
Some people like to have popular things and that's why they have them and they enjoy them because they're popular.

It does seem boring seeing the same villagers over and over but hey that's their choice.
Sometimes people have them to sell them, Marshal moved in randomly and I'm thinking of keeping him as a permie because he's growing on me, but I invited Beau in from my campsite because I know he's popular and after I get his pic I can probably sell him, or at least give him to someone as a dreamie.

It would be nice to see more variety, I'm on a mission to adopt Alligators!

Coming from someone who has 9 popular villagers:

Its sucks :/ IMO
My favorite villager is Camofrog, the rest are bland but I feel like I can't get rid of them or I'll be sad since it took a lot of time looking for them

//edit
there is nothing wrong though if you prefer all popular villagers or non at all.

i just don't know why anyone would want a town of the most popular villagers. i mean, i guess i do? they're popular for good reasons and aesthetically pleasing? but you just look so generic. i wouldn't want that

This is getting so old. Every dang day I see threads loaded with "I don't get why ____ is so popular," "why do people like so and so villagers I don't get it lmao," "I'm going to act condescending towards people for not playing the game how I think it should be played," etc. Just because you don't want popular villagers in your town doesn't make you a special snowflake and frankly, I don't see the point in talking down people who do.

Good thread.

I like my group. Only villager I ever had who I did not like was Velma. But in hindsight, she may have had value, given any Projects that may have been suggested by her.

As for those on the list, some of them may be word-of-mouth, must-haves. I had Lucky in "City Folk"; I didn't know what I was doing with that game and, eventually, he moved out on me. From that list, I want Julian the most because he looks gorgeous. I also want Tammy, Stitches, and Broffina.

One thing I poo-pooed was picking up Simon after another player and I visited each other. I had a vacancy; Simon was evidently part of the void; and he had his house built in my town uninvited. I've since met him. And, so far, I find he is pretty charming. He is another Lazy Villager. I can feel some concern of having too many of them. That there are reasons why there are different types; especially notable with what they suggest for Projects.

It is probably for the best to have a good mix: one to three of the most sought-after followed by a blend of the rest.

Its controversial.

When someone's town is full of chickens and penguins, they have too many popular villagers! BUT WHO CARES! IT"s THEIR TOWN! LEAVE THEM ALONE!

Looks like someone is getting a little defensive.

you don't have to have a popular villager just because they're popular

***** there was someone out there with marshal who loved him far before he was popular
build a bridge and get over it

This is my first AC game and didn't know that some of the villagers I like were popular until I came here. Others I adore are considered bottom of the barrel. Lol! It's just an individual thing, I guess.

If I never reset, I would've had a town of unpopular villagers since I don't know about popular villagers and passed out Whitney, Beau and Lolly because at that time(I almost took Beau but his tune is a tad unsettling) on my campsite and accidentally TT'd out Zell and Flora(I didn't know I actually like Zell until now), but I still like them anyway(Friga and Iggly are cuties).

But when I reset, I just happen to stumble on popular villagers. I got Diana as starter and both Marshal and Marina from villager reset trick.
Before I got Marshal, I also had Julian's plot set(which I passed because I don't like him very much), and I had Erik(whom I'm debating to take but ended up passing) and Zucker(2 times camping, 1 time plot, thinking of taking him if he appears for the 4th time), but ended up passing both because I'm trying to get someone else but ended up with Marina(which I had on WW).

I'd like Fauna because I think she would fit on my town, but I already have Marina so I could live without her. While for Marshal, I have Jacques too(which I think is a better smug) but he grew on my anyway, despite being a trendsetter.

I love my villagers and I don't care if they're popular or not. I usually choose them based on how much I love them, one being Marshal c:

PREACH!

I have a generic town full of popular villagers. My reason is well... i wanted to see what all the hubbub was.In other words i wanted to see how cool these villagers were for myself, Ankha's an awesome freaking Egyptian cat heck yeah, Diana reminds me of a fairy, and Julian is an awesome male unicorn with a... dare i say feminine touch.I legitimately like them, but then i also experienced the popular villagers i didn't like...for example Beau, and then Fuchsia also Ruby, I'm also thinking of getting rid of Marshal...he just doesn't seem as cool as Julian to me. So in hindsight i have them to see how much i like them.I like having villagers I'll enjoy for a long time, so i shove the most beautiful ones into my storage town, since my main town is full, to see if i will like them as much as others do, or as much as i though i would. Taadaa explanation over, hope i helped answer your question a little in my case that is.:)
