i was just drafting up a list of my new horizons dreamies, and if i were to get all of them, 4 out of my 10 of my villagers would be wolves. do you guys think it's possible to have too many of one species, even if they're of different personalities? if you've had a lot of one species at the same time, did you feel like it was boring or did you not mind? i feel like in all of my towns throughout the years i've always had a very solid mix of species at any given time, so i'm hesitant to have so many of one kind, even though i obviously like all of them.

for reference, they are skye, audie, whitney or vivian, and lobo or wolfgang (i can't decide!!)

back in new leaf, i had 5 deers at one given time but since deers are my favourite animal, i didn’t find it to be boring at all! if you like the wolf villagers then i don’t think you’ll have a problem :3

I don't think so. I think I'd get more bored of having too many of the same personality than species. That being said, plenty of people have only half the personality types in the game and still like all of their villagers. So, I think it's most important that you want your villagers and like them than anything!

I think it should be whatever you like. If you find it boring then it is boring. If you don't then it's fine. I appreciate you asking my opinion but I would personally never have to even ask! I know what I want hehe!

Do whatever will give you the most happiness and pleasure.

Personally I decided to only have 1 of each species this time. I had too many wolves in NL.

thanks for the replies! i just don't know whether or not i would find it boring to have so many since i've never had that many at once, so i'm wondering what others experiences with it have been. most of my dreamies are pretty expensive so i don't want to spend a ton of bells/nmt buying them only to not be happy having so many of the same! but based on responses so far, i should probably be fine! i just get worried since i like variety - i know that having half of my villagers be the same personality type would drive me crazy (speaking as someone who used to have more than half of their new leaf town be peppy.....it was cute at first then quickly became a waking nightmare)

I had 4 cats in acnl (Cranky, Snooty, Lazy and Peppy) it wasn't too much for me as long its not the same personality then its fine for me.

i personally never liked having a lot of the same species!! but i dont see why you couldnt do whatever you wanted in your island!

i think as long as you have varied personalities it shouldn't get too repetitive, and you'll probably be much happier having the villagers you actually want instead of forcing yourself to settle for others of different species.

I don't see anything immediately wrong with doing so. I have two wolves in my town currently, although that is less than four.

Personality is more important than species. I have 3 preppys atm and they all had the same dialogue for the Nook's Cranny update.

I feel like as long as they have different personalities it doesn’t matter if you have a ton of just one species, though of course its different for everyone.
If I go with my dreamies list I’ll have 4 dog villagers and 2 wolf villagers, which seems like a ton but I feel like it’ll be fine as long

You can never have too many wolf villagers!

The one aspect of a villager you want to avoid having too many of are the same personality type. Species is not a problem, unless you personally don't like it.

I don't believe there is a way to play animal crossing. If all of your dreamies are wolves then that makes you happy and you should go for it :) I currently have 3 tigers in my town and I'm aiming for one more. Do what makes you happy :) <3

Even personality types, pick villagers you like lol I don't understand this need for a perfectly balanced town. If you like your dynamic then great! It's your game~

My island's final form is going to have 3 goats and 7 rabbits. Rabbits are my absolute favorite animal, and I was planning on having all rabbits until I met Sherb on a Mystery Island. Then, my whole world changed. I also love goats, another favorite animal of mine, so it all works out.

I think it's just a personal preference, really!

oh, i don't think there's a right way to play it either! my concern stemmed from the fact that i like variety, but i also like a lot of wolves. so there's a conflict of interest for me in that regard. i find it fun to have a lot of different-looking villagers. but i also love the wolves! at the end of the day i think i'm just gonna go for the wolves, the responses are pretty unanimous here haha

for me personally 2 of the same species is the limit--or maybe 3 if i really ended up with 3 i wanted to keep--with the exception of one of my NL towns where i have 5 horses to fit the theme of it. but even with those 5 horses i don't get bored of my villagers, so it's up to you!

i think i'd prefer to have different species than the same. maybe one or two repeats. but there's just so many cute animal species that i'd want to have as many as possible!

editing to add that the wolves are really great, especially with the edition of audie, so i totally understand your dilemma!

right? sydney is my first ever koala villager and i am absolutely in love. she moved in randomly as part of the first 3 plots you build and i never would have looked twice at her otherwise, but since she's moved in i just can't get over how cute she is! i also haven't had a squirrel in forever, maybe not since pecan in wild world, so i'm getting poppy as my last normal villager. there are very few species in this game that i don't like!
