Tips on Making an Urban Town?

Okay, so I just started a new town, and I thought to sign up here to get some tips. I've been thinking about making an urban-ish town for a while. I know the obvious, such as modern PWPs and whatnot, but I don't really know where to find good assets for a town as such.
My question is: Do you have any tips, resources, or experiences with urban towns?
