So, since I'll be resetting my game sometime, but I have no idea how to make my town look nice. I've visited plenty of towns for inspiration, but I don't like feeling as though I'm copying others. I'm not really asking for a guide as to how to set up my new town, but I'd appreciate some tips pertaining to how to make your town look nice.
-Choose a path and lay it out as soon as you unlock the QR machine. Optionally, make a placeholder path (such as a plain white square) and put it out until you unlock the QR machine. If you have your paths laid out, choosing where to put PWPs and trees and stuff is easier- at least it was for me.
-Don't overdo flowers until you know for sure what direction you want to go in.
I agree laying out a path is important. Try to think about what places you run the most to make the path convenient. From the dock to retail, from your main house to retail, etc… a nice big path down from town hall and the train station perhaps. Then think about where you'd want your villager houses to be if you plan on trying to plan those? and planning where public works can be a nd whether you want a theme for your public works. Like do you want a japanese garden? Set out a place for that to be, about how big you think it will be, and perhaps put a place holder cheap public work like a bench or a flower bed to keep villagers from moving into where you want your japanese garden to be. That's just an example of course…
But I thought it was fun to go through the pictures of all available public works and think about which ones I actually wanted and where I thought they might go eventually. It will end up being more organic in actual practice, but it helped me not just make a hot mess of everything.
I also had fun going around my town to try and identify the most picturesque areas, like near waterfalls, to try to plan gardens or a public work or something to take advantage of the beautiful spot.
get lots of axes, like for a while, every time you see an axe, buy it, so that you can cut down a lot of trees if you have to to put your path and stuff where you want it.
Think about how wide you want your paths to be and whether you want a space or two between your path and a tree. Do you want a bush and/or flowers in-between your trees and your path? etc.
as someone who only just recently started to take my town in a color themed direction, i cannot second this enough. i had a few rough days last week organizing way too many flowers ; w;
Get your dream villagers first before you start laying down paths (unless you don't mind doing villager plot resets). Merengue moved in after I had finished making my paths and destroyed one of them. Needless to say, she won't be staying in town much longer. :l
This.
In my first town I let flowers grow wherever they wanted. Before long, literally my entire town was covered in flowers. It looked awful. Now I kill any new flowers that I don't want with a shovel. It's one of my daily chores :3
this is what i'm currently trying to do:
-i think you should get all (or most) of the pwps from your 8 starting villagers, since all of the different personalities are present in your town, and then move on to getting your dreamies and plot resetting them to a place you like.
-i would then decide where to build the pwps.
-then, paths!!
-lastly, flowers/bushes/trees.
I didn't do plot resets, but I did paths first to do my town... not wait.
I did mostly single lane paths to start... then I added three wide on entrance and around plaza and then little detail areas.
Yeah... a villager will come and wreck some of it or one will move, but that is why on most of the town it has single lane paths so it is easy to fix and look nice.
I picked a few small areas for breeding flowers so when I wanted to start decorating, I could with them...
But it is important to really watch the generics unless you know for a fact you are going to use them.
Also, I recommend not doing bushes UNTIL you either 1. have all you are going to use right then or 2 it is in season for them to bloom .... or 3. right everything down.
I did rotating types of bushes for my town hall to plaza... and I was going to do it for my entrance but didn't remember the order I used. TT^TT .... I ended up using all the same ones there... but just word to the wise unless you like mix matched. >.>
Agree. Have the amount of bushes you need then only start. For example I need 5 holly start and 2 pink azalea it would be nice if I have all 7 or else I won't know which is which until they bloom flower.
