So i've kinda found myself falling out of love with animal crossing for a while now. I want to get back into New Leaf, but i'm having trouble playing the game for more than a few minutes at a time before saving and leaving my town to rot for months on end. Does anyone have any tips of how to get back into playing the game again?
Note: I'm considering restarting my town again, but even doing that hasn't really helped.
first of all, i know you said restarting your town isn't really a good option, but i still suggest you try! i just restarted mine after not playing for over a year, and now i'm addicted haha
apart from that, you should consider getting some friends to play with, or set some targets to achieve in-game to motivate yourself! maybe that way you might find your gameplay more meaningful too

You can always redo the town! Or look for little things to do like finding new QR Codes for paths, or clothes. If your town is a mess cleaning is a good way to satisfy yourself and might make you a little more interested. One thing I personally have enjoyed is tours with friends, and earning badges. For me though the key was playing with friends and making friends!
I was experiencing this about a year ago actually, before I discovered this forum What got me back into it was sharing the town with a friend, finding the forum, and meeting other people online. I got inspired by seeing how other people play :3 If all else fails though, there's always New Horizons to look forward to!
I would suggest re-designing your town if you don't want to restart it! Do your best to change things up like paths, placements of things, etc. Try new things like filling the encyclopedia, going to the island, decorating your house, etc.
Setting goals for yourself! I spent a lot of time visiting themed dream towns posted on the thread to get ideas for my town or redesigning a house/ making a new house in town.
Then redesigning or making a new house in town with a cool theme usually makes me want to play a lot more!
What I did lately was redesign my town and make a new room with my favorite music boxes. I?ve been spending a lot of time getting the K.K. songs I wanted and turning them into music boxes at retail; then making a cool music box room in my house.
I also agree with the people suggesting you redo your town. Maybe start with the HHA challenges and then challenge yourself do make your whole town fit the theme. Of course, I'm always restart happy, so I would also suggest doing that to get back into it. When I was bored with my old towns, that's what I'd do.
