Tips for catching fast sea creatures?

I'm trying to 100% my museum, so I'm trying to catch all the sea creatures I can. The only ones I'm missing right now are the Vampire Squid and the Gigas Giant Clam, but I've been having trouble catching up to them. I've been mashing A underwater, but it doesn't seem to help very much, as they just change direction.

Has anyone discovered an easier way to catch these?

don't press A. try to creep up on them and then dive.

I second what Zen said. Not pressing A is the equivalent of sneaking with the net
