Smash Bros Thoughts on todays DLC release.

I haven't bought anything yet, but here's what I got just from playing a bunch of matches on For Glory:

Pretty much all Lucas players use the same strategy.

Roy is decent, still not that great.

Ryu is a piece of garbage. He is so. Freaking. Bad.

Lucas is all that matters. Everything else pales in comparison.
Also what is the strategy they all use?

Lucas is gr8, the new stages and songs are nice, but Roy and Ryu are trash.

I haven't tried the new characters yet, but I'll just say that Ryu is a random edition to Smash. By random, I mean it makes no logical sense that he is a playable character in this game.

Ryu's dangerous in the right hands, his timings are really sweet when you pull them off, I can definitely see him being Mid/High Tier in the tier lists, Roy's cool too.

Lucas...Lucas is babe, Lucas' small changes are the best!

Roy is definitely a new main for me, and he surprised a lot of people I know who thought he was gonna be trash. Ryu is weird to have in the game, but good enough, I guess. Lucas, it just doesnt feel complete without him. Dreamland is a cool stage, as is the Street Fighter one. I havent tried the Miiverse stage.

Also I agree. The prices are absolutely ridiculous, but I am a sucker for DLC, specifically if it is extra characters/stages/tracks for fighting/racing games.

Im very pleased with todays update. I will probably go back and buy the inkling costumes as well!

I really don't mind Lucas or Roy, but it seems like Sakurai wants all the clones/semi-clones to be DLC before any other original characters can get in.

All I wanted was Lucas, but I need to have all characters and stages. So I bought those to.
I've been using Lucas, ever since.
I started using him in the last version and I was disappointed he was never first added when the game was released. So happy he is back now.

5 Dollars a character seems fine to me since I come from skullgirls which does similar pricing with their new characters. I'm curious to know why you think its sub-par though.

Roy seems as good as marth if not a little bit better. Though I've yet to play anyone good with him, so we will see.

Lucas does not seem as good as Ness. His throws are alright, but none of them seem like kill throws from what I've seen. He's got a tether recovery/grab which is always nice. Still need to play more against him. All of his attack effects are extremely pretty, which is awesome.

I can't seem to play anyone with Ryu, but according to the trailer, he's been made with combos in mind so it seems like he's going to be pretty great.

You can pay $22 (more than a third of the full game) for 3 characters, 2 stages, and 15 costumes, where the full game only counting the same criteria is about 3 times more but has 51 characters, 48 stages, and 21 costumes, which is 17x the characters and 24x the stages for 3x the price (It's not even worth it to include the costumes since they're purely cosmetic), also not counting that 2 of the 3 characters are semi-clones and not fully unique and that the trophies, modes, and all the other stuff isn't included.

If you paid the same for the things in the full game that you did with the DLC (not including costumes), the roster and stages alone would cost over $300 ($4 per character and $2 per stage), and you don't even get a discount when you buy the bundles (everything, even Ryu, is still a specific price, as Ryu is $6 which includes $4 character + $2 stage).

Now, you can't calculate the rate for the base game because there's no percent of how much the characters take up of the $60, but if it was 50%, they would be $1.70 each, and stages would be $1.60 assuming they were the other 50% (but this would mean everything else including the music, modes, trophies, ect. would be completely free, so in reality the prices would be even lower).

The only way you'd get a "deal" is if you bought both versions since it's only a $1 more, but otherwise, you can see how it's over priced.

1. it costs like half the price of the games full retail value for 3 characters (2 of which are clones), 2 stages, and 15 mii fitter costumes (when no one uses mii fighters anyway)
2. Roy and Lucas are clones. if I wanna play as lucas I'll play brawl or Ness who is literally the same. If I wanna play as Roy I'll play as Marth or Lucina since they're basically the same. Plus who even cares about Roy like who r u???

4. cool stages but who cares really u play on ur fav anyway so unless u love these two stages they dont matter

I know, but I was referring to both Wii U and 3DS together. What you said would be $29-$30 in that case
