Thoughts on Paths?

Would you judge someone if they didn't have paths for whatever reason? I myself do like paths, but I don't have the patience to lay them down, sadly, and I'm not creative enough to know where to put them, for that matter. I always figured I'd get around to it, but I just can't ever seem to find the motivation.

What are your thoughts?

I like them, they give the town that 'complete' feel and make a town look loved.
But if someone doesn't have paths, I still nosey around.

I think paths look great, but I don't have the energy or desire to lay down paths. I wouldn't judge someone for not laying them down.

I can see that. It shows dedication for the town, but I've often seen people say that if you don't have paths, your town is worth less, which I wholeheartedly disagree with. I love my town, pathless or otherwise. Thanks for the opinion!

I kind of didn't want paths at first because I love all the natural grass and if I had a path, I'd follow it and wear the grass under it faster. Well, the grass started to erode anyways of course, so eventually I added one. First I brought in a bunch of flowers from the island and lined where I want my path, deciding on a two-wide pattern. After a few days adjusting the flower border, I added a path. It's the QR design that matched the plaza cobblestone. I've yet to venture further from it, but am considering it.

I always wanted to have natural dirt paths but then I thought it was too much hassle :x so I just went ahead and laid down paths. Didn't take as long as I expected~

Well, I don't use paths myself for a number of reasons.

First of all, I don't like that the sounds your footsteps make are the same as stepping on grass. If I had a cobblestone path, then it's be odd, y'know?

Secondly, I don't have the creativity, nor the time or effort to make paths that would help me represent my town.

Last of all, I'd get really annoyed having to rearrange them when villagers move in and out if town. I've seen lots of people on tumblr going crazy over someone moving into their town and onto their paths too.

Still, I like to see what peoples paths are like and how creative they are. :)

Sounds simple enough, actually! I've always seen those paths that require all the slots of your custom designs though, and I'd get kinda intimidated, haha. Maybe one day I'll venture further and try a few out.

I have a path that's only 1 tile and I love it. I'm surrounding it with flowers, though, since single-path designs are often boring.

It does take patience, but I think it's worth it! It attracts a lot more people.

I'm not really sure I would be able to survive without them... I first got them back in the summer because my town had pretty much been reduced to a massive dirt patch and it looked awful. I find it quite hard to get around towns that don't have paths because I always feel guilty when I run over flowers and I'm too impatient to walk :) However I do think that you can create a very nice foresty and natural feel without paths and plenty of trees and flowers and I really really love natural dirt paths!

I actually got paths BECAUSE I'm lazy, haha.

I can't run around enough to make natural paths, so I lay them down instead. Sure, it drives me a bit crazy, but I think it's worth it in the end.

If paths are done right they really can complete the look of the town. They are a beautiful way of tying things together. But I don't think they are necessary at all and if I'm in a town that doesn't have them it doesn't stop me from exploring and enjoying the town.

I've tried to set down paths before but I just can't seem to get it right. I've used paths I found online and I've tried to make a few myself but I just can't seem to find that one special design that looks quite right for my town. There have been some that looked absolutely beautiful online but when I've put them down they just look unnatural or out of place. Plus, my town has sort of an awkward layout that calls for a lot of diagonal placements that always look messy to me. After so many failed attempts I've lost the patience to set anymore paths and now I just opt for the natural erosion paths which still look quite nice IMO. Lately I've started to outline the paths with strategically placed flower arrangements that I think makes it look even better.

Some towns are amazingly pretty without paths and some towns I find ugly with paths...
I didn't have paths until a couple days ago, and frankly I'm not sure I will be keeping mine yet...
I like both, pathing isn't a judge factor for me.

It only uses four slots. I like it quite a lot. The only negative is that the pattern is of course square, so it doesn't have that natural fade like the plaza, and lacks edges. Then again, with edges and corners, it would take more slots.

I removed a little of my path the other day, so see what the dirt path under it looked like. I do like the natural dirt path, so I might let one develop in my orchard. Only warning here is to be sure to line it with plants, or it could spread quite wide.

Single tile paths make me feel really claustrophobic. I like that freedom of movement Animal Crossing gives you, and paths seem to fight against this. One day, when I actually decide to figure out the layout of my town, I plan on making any walkways 2-3 tiles wide, or even making them natural paths by lining bushes/trees/flowers.

I love pathways, but I tend to fall for the more natural looking ones that are lined with clovers and earthy tones rather than bright colored bricks. I also love seeing towns with natural dirt paths because it shows the time taken to make them and also maintain them. Eventually I'd like to add something like that into my own town.

I agree, all my paths in my town are 2 wide.
I only have single tile for little paths in the forests or for short distances between villager houses.
They are so uncomfortable to walk on hahaha.

I remember in wild world when i put down a town wide pattern assortment that was like the ocean and a bunch of islands/sharks/etc. It was so cool back when i was 10 and took forever xD now i use a standard silver brick path that uses 12 pattern slots.
