I despise the site because people can be very mean on it.
Always downvoting and posting mean comments. I post my art on there but I'm starting to think I should post it somewhere else so that way everytime I do post, somebody doesn't discourage me from doing what I love...
:'<

I haven't been there, but you've got to toughen up. Not everybody's going to praise and clap everything you do, there will always be people who will dislike your craft, and some of them may express it in a disgusting way, but life's like that.

Ugh, yeah, 100%. Imgur isn't the best website for art or even growth, I think.
I mean, I've only seen Imgur from the side that reddit uses it, and well, it's definitely not pretty.
I think you should get into some other communities!

To me, Imgur's just an image hosting site; I can't care for it's community. And from what I've seen, I don't think it's community cares for it's community.
But y'know. That's just my limited perspective.

I might as well. And yea I basically just used it to post transparent pieces of art on and send the link to the people who bought it.
I don't know why I don't just use deviantArt as it is meant for art.

Hey thanks for all the comments though. Cheered me up! :)
also let me know that imgur isn't a very good site for that stuff

You can make your imgur profile private if you're worried about comments. I'd honestly rather keep my art there than deviantArt since dA has a track record of selling peoples' art for their own gain.

Well it helps if you find out why you want to post art. Is it for publicity? Criticism/critique? To sell? Etc?

If you want criticism/advice, then the best place to post it would be on art discussion boards such as the one here on TBT. If you want to have publicity/commissions, then it might be better to post on deviantart.

Imgur isn't really there to do anything besides host images as people have said.

I actually never knew Imgur had an actual community. I always thought it was a website just to upload and view photos. I guess I was wrong. .-.

I've been a long lurker on imgur and I know this about it.

- Many things that end up on the front page are reposts.
- They like to downvote most content in the usersub even if it's OC.
- Confession bears are popular, but usually contain bs or trick stories.
- Many people use long usernames that don't make sense.
- They tend to make sexual comments if it's about a girl.
- They never expect Cera or the Spanish Inquisition.
- They tend to not source art.

I honestly wouldn't bother posting original content or much content at all there. They're very particular and seem to consist of adult males as the main community. The community can either be supportive (such as weight loss posts, real confession bear sad stories, surgeries, etc.) or totally annoying. I don't know why I go on there so much truthfully. I guess I'm hoping to see new content on the front page.

i tried using it once but it disappointed me, i couldn't upload the pictures i wanted, so i gave up. i didn't know there was a community though, if i continued to use it i would just use it for pictures

HAHAH, i didn't even know it was a social media tbh. I just use it to upload an image very quickly to get a URL.

Although, when I used to Reddit a lot, I saw people using Imgur.... So the content on it seems to usually be pretty good. No mom memes and things of the sort.

the community does tend to be pretty sexist. I stopped using Reddit for this reason.

No I use it to share art to the TBT forums. I don't post for people on Imgur. Though sometimes I see people comment when I check if the link works and sometimes what I read is aggravating. But overall I post on imgur just to have a place to link the photo to.

i only use it to host photos lmao, never been part of the community or w/e

it's kinda weird when your random photos get a lot of views tho

i just use it to upload art and gets links for them, thats all. never thought of it as a community
