Every Animal Crossing has those things you may don't like that much and bothers you, may it be limits, changes or other issues. I would like to know which things you don't like about New Leaf and why.

I really don't like the fact of how much the personalities got changed here. It feels like as if they watered them down so much to a point where they all act kinda the same. I miss a stronger representation of the personalities. Cranky and Snooty villagers but also the others lost their rude behavior which I find pretty disappointing, as I liked it in the older games getting sassy claims from my villagers, those were always funny.

Another thing that bothers me about NL is the dialogue. It hasn't the variety the dialogues in the older titles had and becomes stale real quick, as villagers repeating them self too often.

The dialogue in this game was very disappointing. The characters always repeat themselves, and it feels like you're always talking to the same villager, no matter what their personality is. And I don't think it makes sense for the cranky or snooty villagers to be like, nice to you when you first move in. I mean, I understand some of the personalities being welcoming, but there are some personalities who are meant to be more "rude".

Now I really don't want it like in the original Animal Crossing where all the villagers are huge jerks and never seem to get nicer, so I feel like they need to find a nice middle ground.

Also, I really dislike running out of stuff to do so fast. These days, all I really do anymore is water my hybrids in hopes of getting more. If the villagers actually had interesting things to say, I might actually talk or do requests for them.

My biggest complaint would also be the watered down personalities and dialog, not just for the villagers but also the NPCs. I miss having to really earn your villagers' friendship. Now, they're all pretty nice to you right from the beginning. I could understand if they had wanted to make normals, for instance, nicer from the start, but not all of them. I miss the rudeness of the older dialog. It was funny and it made you feel so good when you finally got close to them. As for NPCs, they just killed Blathers in New Leaf. I used to love hearing his ramblings. It was the most exciting part of turning in a new fish or bug or whatever to the museum. Now, he doesn't tell you anything, and I know you can go read the information on the signs, but I never bother.

My only other major complaint is the grass deterioration. I don't know who thought this was ever a good idea. The whole point of the game is to wander around your town looking for things, gathering things, catching things, watering flowers, hitting rocks and shaking trees. But if you do those things consistently, you end up with a bare brown town. I know because it happened to me my first year playing the game. I never even run. Just walking around town doing my daily routine killed almost all the grass. The only solution I found was to restrict myself to walking on paths, and while that did fix the issue, I feel like I'm missing out on a part of the game that I used to enjoy by not being able to wander freely.

I'm with you. I feel like New Leaf watered down all of the personalities to the point where most are indistinguishable. Even NPCs, like Phylis or Resetti were toned down. It's made the enjoyment of talking to villagers empty and tasking. It's because of this that the Cranky personality became my most favorite, as they can still be funny from time to time.

I feel the dialogue has been watered down, too. Characters often repeat themselves or have very little to say compared to the older Animal Crossing games, not only that, but the quizes they give you are often a pointless time consumption, as they just walk away afterwards, leaving you wondering if you answered the question to their satisfaction or they're just messing with your mind.

In Wild World when a Cranky/Normal/ect. villager asked me what I thought of them or what my favorite [X] was, they'd often give me a gift if they agreed with my respnse. Now it's just how mean do you think I am? Or what's your favorite flower? And after answering they go silent and walk away. Oh, ok... ._.

I hate how slow the process of discarding letters can be. I'm forced to read all the letters I receive, then I have to discard them one by one, and there's some areas you can't even discard your letters in and you have to step outside just to do so.

I hate how Porter tells me someone else has their gates open and whether I prefer to visit instead of opening my own gates. If I wanted to visit another town, instead of opening my gates, don't you think I would've clicked "visit" instead?

I really hate how you can't skip dialogue like you can in Fire Emblem. A lot of times (especially now that the dialogue have been watered down) villagers and NPCs have nothing important to say/are repeating something you already know or have heard a millions times/ect. and you have to just sit there and keep clicking (A) till they finally stop talking. Even worse if talk to Tim or Timmy everytime you want to buy a fortune cookie or sell an item to avoid walking back to Re-tail to make some room in your pockets to buy more stuff.

I dislike rock placements and how you can't move them. Often times the ruin a perfect PWP placement and speaking of PWP placement, why must they consume so much space? Geez, you can't even place most PWP near each other without Isabelle giving you and earful.

Why is your town so freaking small?

I miss Gyroids outside of your home or the recycling bin or trash area

I miss all the events the GCN Animal Crossing had compared to New Leaf

I think that's about everything I dislike from Animal Crossing New Leaf compared to the older AC games.

Everyone here seems to state some of my own complaints perfectly. The villagers seem to have been toned down. None of them have rare, unique, or even just interesting dialog. I understand that they want to save programming room for more exciting things, but still- the villagers are one of the most popular aspects of the game. Maybe they should add 'sub/mixed-personalities'...?

I don't like some graphics. In the trailer, the pansies looked like City Folk ones, but later they changed them. I kinda understand its a 3DS, probably less power than a Wii. Okay, that's that. Another thing I don't like are the way some perfect fruits are presented. To me, I usually think perfect fruits should be a more [grand] fruit in real life or better quality. Nintendo made perfect pears brown... Okay...

I agree with everyone else here about the personalities being sooo watered down. Just a week ago I was playing Wild World and I definitely noticed a big difference right away in my conversations with them. All the villagers are just way too nice now even at the beginning of New Leaf. The crankies and snooties in Wild World actually had more to say and it you were rude to them, they would be rude back. Now they don't even do that anymore, or even leave the conversation you had with them with a thought bubble or some other emotion. They're just emotionless in New Leaf. :/

Another thing I agree with everyone else is the dialogue. The dialogue was soo expanse in the older games and usually never repeated more than once every time you talk to them. Now I always just hear the same response over and over again whenever I talk to them a lot. I miss the good old days in Wild World where I could have a lively conversation everyday and not get blasted with the same response or question.

I think those two, the personalities being watered down too much and the lack of dialogue is what really gets to me the most. Everything else I can think of is fine for now, but if I think of anymore, I'll be sure to post here. :)

Well I’ll be the zillianth person to say that I really don’t like how the characters were watered down. They used to be so quirky and distinctive which made having a friendship with these adorable little pixels more like real friends. It’s not just the villager (although they are a huge issue) it’s also the main characters such as resseti who used to be a lot meaner. Even the fact that we used to be able to hit villagers to get them to move out- that feels more real than an automated villager who loves you no matter how much violence or neglect you inflict on them. Where’s the fun in a 100% nicey picey, sweet, perfect game without some of that classic animal crossing quirk and insults.

I'm kinda upset that there will be no updates for New Leaf, I really like it but Can they at least add Pokemon themes in the game, specially for those who are Pokemon fans. (Not that Ash won't be in the next anime series >:000000) But, like I was saying, why can they use the other amiibos to make something out of those. I was shocked that they crossed over Sanrio in the New Leaf series.

Other than the villagers being quite bland, one thing I absolutely can't stand is the grass wear. I mean, entire towns can become just dirt because of this mechanic. And even then, it takes forever for the grass to grow back.

Like many other people, the villager personalities were my main beef with New Leaf. The game was so much more charming and lively with occasional insults and dramatic outbursts. Gamecube was a bit brutal (although hilarious) but Wild World had the perfect balance of spice in my opinion. I have a bad gut feeling that New Horizons will be even MORE watered down, but hopefully they have heard the feedback and will change the villager personalities to be more like prior games!

I like what you say here about the whole 'too nice' thing, and that being rude isn't an option. It's sort of like Nintendo was protecting us from the option of making 'bad decisions', so to speak. Having he option to be rude but choosing not to means more than being forced to act nice. Know what I mean? Just like immediately befriending villagers doesn't have the same feeling as earning friendship.

Does this make any sense? lol

AC:NL is the only Animal Crossing game I've ever played, so my opinion is very different- Toy Day. I hate how many things shove Christmas in there for no reason- Neopets has Christmas, Animal Crossing has Christmas, I'm tired of Christmas!

I wish they had something that hovered over the public work gyroids to show how much has been donated

Villagers are so... Fake? I know everyone else has said this already but honestly I wish that they took more time fleshing out the dialogue and personalities so they weren't cardboard cutouts of what they used to be. I only played new leaf and its spinoffs but fr what I've heard they were way better. I have legitimately no friends in real life and I kinda imagine my villagers as my actual friends to cope (I have no life) so I wish that the developers took more than a literal week typing the dialogue of characters we love. Their dialogue also repeats way too much? Because honestly they repeat like everyday, sometimes like in the same time??? I'm not sure if they could but I wish when the computer puts out the dialogue they like don't repeat it until like a month or two later then it would go back into the circulation of dialogue. Also my theory is they didn't care about the dialogue because they had to add a ton of new dialogue because of the new uchi and smug personalities and they were so tired with dialogue writing that they just added the bare minimum that they could and let loose with all the personalities of the character's dialogue, but since there won't be any new personalities in new horizons, they can focus on the dialogue more, and they got nine extra months to perfect the game. But I'm still scared that they'll be even more lazy with the dialogue of what I've seen, but I have a little bit of hope that they'll listen and improve the dialogue, idk. And the grass deterioration is very annoying but I've heard that it's not as bad as City folk. Honestly it's still awful, I hate that they didn't remove it. And they REALLY DID CELESTE DIRTY OMG- I honestly hate they trashed the observatory for the exhibits, like I like the extra space but it's nothing compared to the cute little observatory. And it gets really boring after a while, I'm still interested in new leaf but I'm taking longer and longer breaks over time, OK now I'm done, I could honestly go on forever but my fingers hurt. Also I still love new leaf even tho I wrote everything I hate about it for half an hour (>_<)

i?m not a fan of not being able to control your skin tone without standing on the island for hours...

- Seemingly random grass deterioration. Although I love the look of dirt paths, just getting to that point is really tedious, not to mention the random dirt patches that form in places you don't even touch.
- Villager personalities are watered down and dialogue is severely lacking and gets repetitive after a while.
- Lack of skin tone choices
- The item placement mechanics. Although it got a lot better after the update, I'm still sad that we didn't get half-unit placements like in HHD
- Celeste's downgrade

I love New Leaf overall so these are just nitpicky things :p From the looks of the trailer it seems that New Horizons has addressed some of the things I was unhappy about in NL so I'm really excited about that.

While I really can only compare it to the original as that's the only other one I've played, while young even. I agree completely that the personalities are a bit lacking. It creates this repetativeness that the games are pretty notorious for as is even more repetative. I also don't like how favored hacking towns are in terms of its "creativity" to the community. Sure not having limitations allow for more creativity per say, but the illegitimacy makes the notoriety behind them feel so much more unearned. As someone who doesn't even like time travelling, hacking is that x10.
