They've turned the Wii into trash

Um...you do know the reason there doing this is because they don't have the funds to keep it running because the Wii-U did poorly in sales right?

You really shouldn't be complaining about how "corrupt" Nintendo is for making this decision.

They've been keeping the servers for DS games on for almost as long as some of our members have been alive here. Nearly ten years. They had to drop these because they couldn't afford it, including the Wii servers. If Nintendo were being corrupt they would have been charging you to use those online features in the first place. But they didn't and they most likely never will. You should do a little more research into things before you start going off calling people corrupt for things you don't understand fully.

I agree with this. You cant expect something that is FREE to last forever. And two, I dont think the wii is complete garbage now as I never even used mine online just used it to play with friends locally or alone. So I guess my wii still has worth to me.

They don't have the money to keep it running, do you want them to go bankrupt or something? Jesus, you sound like a ****ing child.

I gotta agree with the others. Take Google as an example. They own billions of dollars, but they still cancel some services. Why? It's because thwy don't have the money to fund the services anymore, because no one is really using it and they are losing profits. But in this case, Nintendo is doing this to actually make their company survive, so they could make more games for more money. And to support Nintendo we need to buy their quality games, so I suggest we actually accept what they are doing to let our favorite gaming company survive for a little longer :)

Think about this,
Maybe they shut it down to have money to make new games.
Like, maybe in a few years there will be a new animal crossing

Wow... That makes me feel old XD
I feel kinda upset that Nintendo is the failing company, but then, it's only because they don't give in to selling all the games about war and other things like that and try to keep a family audience. They even made the Wii to try and keep everybody active and have put pedometer features in their games and inbuilt for the 3DS, but of course, no, everyone would rather sit and shoot guns for 5 hours straight. It's a shame really because parents buy games too old for their kids and then they see Nintendo as 'babyish', so they've lost one age group. Teenagers are the same as the kids too and there aren't many huge Nintendo-based fandoms around.

And before anyone says it, it's fine if you like Sony and Microsoft (I prefer Microsoft games to Sony, just to put it out there) but it's how the mindset of the masses don't match Nintendo. Not many people want to be active. Not many people want to play a game with 'nothing to do' but talk to a bunch of animals and fish. And that's the problem that Nintendo is struggling to cope with.

Because I'm sporty and subject to nostalgia and cuteness, Nintendo is perfect for me.

Sorry, I just see people say this stuff a lot so I kinda lost control this time.
I apologize for being rude.

It's sad, yes. But you need to realize that Nintendo is a business, and things like online servers cost money to run. Combine that with poor WiiU sales, and them shutting down the Wii & regular DS servers makes perfect sense.

I'm pretty sure the factor of Wii U sales & 3DS sales may be somehow implemented in this very slightly, but I'm pretty sure the main priority in this is the loss of money, due to lack of funds to keep the Wii and DS running.

I get that they lost money, and I get that it's probably necessary.

Doesn't mean I can't be pissed about it. I use the DS wifi a lot for Pokemon, and I know a lot of people play Brawl online, or Mario Kart.

I just hope that one day they'll reopen the services in some form. Or something. Idk. It's just disappointing and irritating for those that use it. (I'm not saying they're corrupt for doing so however)

Wow... Just yesterday I was bored and looked at the oldest thread in the gamer's lounge... It was from 2004, discussing when Wild World would come out. I was six at the time. I had no idea how long this forum has been around. But back to the main point, yeah, good on Nintendo! 10 years of wi-fi compatibility isn't too shabby, not to mention New Leaf has online as well.

Had Nintendo put more effort into the next console, they would have the funds to keep wifi running. Now, they're throwing another punch against their fans by shutting down Nintendo WFC. They're just servers after all. I don't think it costs that much money to leave some servers on.

I am pretty sad that the wi-fi servers will be shutting down. N is doing it because they had a huge money loss. But I still give tons of respect for Nintendo

I admit that I'm pretty bummed about them closing the online, but for me, it's mostly because it means I can't do online Mario Kart anymore. That was one of my favorite things to do after achieving all of the unlockables.

In 20 years, will Microsoft keep the 360 services up, or Sony with the PS3?
Things get outdated and is a waste of money to keep them running.

I admit I spent nearly 700 hours on Monster Hunter Tri,
200 on City Folk and I can't count how many on Brawl/Mario Kart.

Yes, I am sad they took it off but I understand and I am hella looking froward to new WiiU services!
Just because what you're use to changes, doesn't mean it's either bad or corrupt.
Also, the sales on the WiiU had nothing to do with it.
They had already planned the shut Wii services down after releasing the WiiU.

No, it's not a "waste" if it's still being highly used. There's heavy traffic on all of their servers. Now, of course, we're not paying for it, but it's hardly a corporate waste if that's where half of the users are.
I don't believe for a second that the WiiU sales had "nothing to do with it", unless you show me some solid evidence that isn't Nintendo blubbering over sales or whatever. If they truly are shutting them down for reasons other than money, then that's ****ed up.

Nintendo is the highest profiting major game company if I recall correctly. Well since E3 anyways. And I mean like,
Sony and Microsoft are no competition.

Game companies must be worse off than I thought if they'd go bankrupt from shutting down online play. But it's a sensible business move. After all I was one of those "I got 3DS just for pokemon y and acnl" people hah.
