So, this is probably going to make me sound like the craziest cat lady ever? but I just love the smell of cats. There, I said it!

I don't know what it is, but smelling a cat is really relaxing and comforting. I've had cats all 18 years of my life, and I've come to notice that female cats have milder scents than males (my cat Annie had a very mellow scent, sometimes she smelled like nothing it was so mild) My current kitty, Lenny, is a big, 10-year-old maine coon, and I just love the way he smells. He has a lot of thick fur and it's really aromatic. His scent is usually that of maple, fresh baked cookies and warm laundry. I just love it!

If you have a cat, do you like the way they smell? Or am I really just crazy obsessed with cats? (it's true, nonetheless)

I've had a cat since I was 5 and I didn't know they had a smell. Like, dogs smell like wet socks, imo. But my cat doesn't smell like anything. I mean I haven't gone around sniffing her, but yeah. Interesting.

Dogs skin produces oil that helps them stay resistant to the elements, such as frost and rain. That's why wet dog smell is so bad because the skin produces double the amount of oil. We just got my dog groomed and she smells like vanilla and raspberries! Before then, it wasn't pleasant lol.

I find female cats don't have as much of a scent as males. Just an observation I've made over the years of growing up with cats.

I actually do know what you mean by this haha :p They smell lovely. My newest cat is a girl and my other two are boys that I've had for ages, and I can tell a difference :3 who knows why though!

My cat smells like a tortilla sometimes... I'm not really sure why lol. He doesn't like to bathe himself often though. Otherwise he smells like my perfume on most occasions because he sleeps in my bed every day, which is nice haha. :D Other cats I've had I never really paid attention to the way they smell but I do think males tend to have a stronger odor than females.

It probably has something to do with territorial dominance… males having a stronger scent to easier establish what's there's. They're so fascinating :p

Yes! I'm not alone!
I always love cuddling my cat because she smells so good, lol.
Especially when she toasts in the sun, lol.
I describe it as stuffed animals, perfume/Febreze/dryer sheets, and sunshine.

I know exactly what you mean! They just have such a comforting scent, I love to snuggle my face into their fur! Too bad I'm allergic...worth it! ;w;

I love animal smell. I don't know why but it freaks me out how my cat is so little but yet, trusts me to hold her and touch her fragile body. It's crazy. I like to cuddle her and smell her and she gives off this warm feeling, especially when she purrs. x3

my cat smells really nice too. he always smells like perfume or flowers or something. I honestly thought I was the only one who noticed.

My maine coon smells like wet dog (and my wet brother).

My gray tabby doesn't really have a smell (the only smell I've picked up from her was car engine)

My black one has no smell as of yet.

this is an awesome thread, and I have a lot to say about this topic XD

1. I love to smell my cat, especially around her muzzle/whiskers area...but her breath stinks, so I avoid that lol. The funny part is I can't actually smell a scent, but I know it somehow makes me happy. I swear it must be some faint scent that my subconscious nose can smell, but my physical nose can't put a finger on it. (I'm not high as I write this, I swear).

2. The muzzle/whiskers thing makes sense because that's where they rub against walls, etc. There are glands there that produce some sort of scent/secretion...IDK what it is, but at my cat's hight, our white walls have turned yellow in certain spots...so it also stains.

3. I read online somewhere that some people REALLY enjoy cat BREATH, after my friend told me she LOOOOVES it, I looked it up and it's a thing. IDK about that one, but must be something scientific.

And finally,

4. I've also had a hamster and a couple of birds in my life, and liked to smell them too. They, in fact, smelled like paper/toilet paper. I can't describe the smell, but it's very comforting if underneath it, there is a warm little beating heart.

Go smell toilet paper, you'll know what I mean.

And now I believe I've out-cat-ladied all of you on this thread. <3 Happy Easter!

My cat's are face cuddlers so I know the cat smell. I'm indifferent, about it though, it's not something I would bottle and spray about?
