The 2025 limited edition candy cane is now available! This sparkling moonlight-blue candy cane wrapped in a glowing purple ribbon fastened by a golden star ornament can be found in the shop through December 26th. In related news, our upcoming New Year’s event will begin one day later than previously announced, starting Sunday, December 28th.
My biggest problem is running before I know they're there, so they are moving fast already. If you're lucky and catch them inactive, you can ready your net and sneak up on them.
Just walk around the town, save or go to buildings at times. Grab the net fast when you see one and approach it slowly. I got bit at least 20 times before catching it, so be careful xD
Like everyone here is saying, you just gotta wait. I got a tarantula the other day! Just walk along doing whatever and I gurantee you will get one. You just really can't look for them.
It's a pain, but chop all trees. Every single one. You can replant as you go.
That gives you 3 days of better chances, or nights. The game will be forced to spawn only ground and air bugs. It still takes time, but you do see one a night. Or at least, I did.
And the just slowly sneak up, pressing a, like you would with rare beetles. Sloooooooow. When he sees you and starts to shake his tail, freeze! He will stop eventually, and you can start sneaking again. The scorpion is pretty easy to catch that way.
The tarantula doesn't let you be slow and get a good aim. It jumps at you. Tarantulas are one of 2 bugs I still need.
I seem to be the reversed version of you, because I have found many Scorpions but not even ONE Tarantula! I seriously must be a Scorpion magnet, yet not a Tarantula magnet. I did spot one, just one. But it plopped into the river before I could even get a chance to catch it! I hope I catch one before the end of August.
If you see one, arm net and immediately go into stealth mode ... advance no more than two steps at a time in its direction until close enough, and then WHAP!! I have caught two recently with this method ... it helps if they are pinned against an unmovable object (my last prey was up against the bench wall around my large tree! no where to go ... HA! (evil laugh)
Hmm, funny you mention it, because last night I was playing, and I had my net out while I was running. I had no intention of catching any bugs, and suddenly I am running crazy around town while a tarantula chases me. Somehow I managed to outrun it, and it fell into the pond by my dirt path -.-
They like to hide in flowers. They'll quickly show themselves and than blend in with the red flowers.
I found 2 this way. I did get lucky with one on a pathway. It just moved and than sat still. Did the stalk and when it tried to attack me I froze. Did it three times and caught it.
I've had one spawn and walk three steps into a stump. It disappeared.
Another time it was in the flowers and took a chance. Wasn't lucky.
Most were caught when I went about my daily routine. I've seen them just after 7pm. I think you have to be playing for almost an hour. So if you start up the game at 7pm you'll have to wait awhile for one to spawn.
I just fished or caught bugs for my badges while I waited. Did tasks for the villagers. All three towns have both bugs.
Scorpions and tarantulas are both the bane of my AC existence. Last year I tried to get both, but I failed utterly. But this year was totally different. I was ready for them. And I got them, with so much relief. My heart was beating as fast as I could imagine. Now my bug encyclopedia is complete. Thank. Gosh.
