The Pronunciation Thread.

German is my second language. c:

Also, it helps that Zucker is literally "Sugar". So it makes more sense that way.

That's what I'm going for. Pretty much been interested in Germans since I was a kid. When I went to church, we'd have some German food and make bierocks twice a year and sell them. Every Christmas Eve we'd sing Stille Nacht. How long have you been speaking the language?

i haven't seen that many pronunciation threads, but it's definitely useful to have it all in one place!

idk how to say merengue's name in english so i just read it in spanish ahaha

i do the same for pietro and maybe other villagers, but i don't remember any

for moe and pekoe i use an 'oh' sound. i say pekoe like p-eh-k-oh (does that make sense?)

annnddd for beau, jambette and chevre i use the french pronunciation thing

When I see a French name, I pronounce it the French way; when I see a German name, I pronounce it the German way. I always say 'Volfguhng' no matter how silly it sounds :P

Probably the only French name I make an exception for is Croque, which I think the localisers intended for us to pronounce as 'croak', not 'croc'.

One name in my town that I actually had to check the pronunciation of was Deirdre, which is pronounced 'deer-druh' not 'deer-der'.

For Papi do you guys say 'pappy' or 'paypee'? Or it could even be 'puppy', if it's a European word...
For Cheri do you say 'cherry' or 'sheree'? Which syllable do you emphasise? I'm guessing 'cherry' might be out since there's an actual Cherry...
For Shari do you say 'sha-ree' or 'share-ree'?
For Olaf do you say 'oh-laff' or 'oh-laugh'? If you're in the US though, you probably don't know what I'm talking about :/
For Pango, it rhymes with 'mango', right?? Chuggaa really threw me off with that one.

P.S.
Great topic (which might actually become quite helpful provided we don't get carried away getting off-topic judging characters' ugliness...ahem). Poor opening post. We could do with less attitude and hypocrisy.

Oh, and I used to not be sure on how to pronounce 'Soleil' - is it Sol-ay?

I've never been able to say Pashmina correctly (or so I think, I've tried calling her through the megaphone but it always registered as someone else. I say it like Pash-mee-nah, is that right? :P

I'm a little curious how you're supposed to say Tangy's name:
is it "Tayng-ee"?(like, "woah, that has a tangy flavor") Or is it supposed to be "tange-ee" (the "tange" part sounding like the beginning of the word "tangerine").
Either way may be correct, but I'm curious how most people say her name. ^.^

I pronounce it Tan-djy. Might be completely wrong though. :p

I pronounce Jambette as "jam-bet".

Moe as "Mow" like mow the lawn. (also The Three Stooges-Larry, Moe and Curly.)

Pekoe as "pee-ko". Like, a silent 'e'.

Julian I pronounce as Joo-lee-ehn"

I've always pronounced Pekoe as peh-KWEE but now that I think about it that would be spelled Pekoui. peh-KOH sound most reasonable to me but pee-KO sounds reasonable too.

It's TANG-ee (hard g) because the word tangy describes sweetish sour things, like an orange.

I used to pronounce Portia as por-tee-ah when I was younger and she was in my WW town :')
I still do though, since that's how I first read the name.

I used to call Pate like Pat?. Basically like "Pat - a" or like Patty with a "aie" replacing the Y. xD
Even though its just Pay - ate, which sounds much more boyish xD.
