The Pronunciation Thread.

I pronounce "Ch?vre" as "shev" with the funny little "re" at the end that the French do, and Jambette as "zhahm-beht".

Klaus is pronounced Klouss
Wolfgang is pronounced Volf-gahng
Zucker is pronounced Tsoo-kerr

Now that is interesting. I could see that. I've never thought of her name as anything other than JAM-BET

Well Jambette is a play on words from the French word "jambe" meaning leg (as in frog legs), and jambe is pronounced "zhamb"! (For those who don't know, zh is pronounced like a soft j) that's my reasoning behind it, anyways! (:

Good to know. I've always called her "Jam-bet-uh".

So it's Mer-ang-goo?

No "-goo" at the end. It's literally just "muh-rang." Period.

I butcher her name terribly as well. When I first saw her name, I thought, "muh-reng-gey." My excuse is that even though her name should be Meringue like the food, it's spelled improperly (Merengue), thus I can get away with odd pronunciations since it technically isn't a word.

Edit: Surprise, surprise. "Merengue" is actually a style of dance which, funnily enough, is pronounced "muh-reng-gey," which is exactly how I mispronounced her name even though her name should be Meringue/"muh-rang." So I still have justification.

I pronounce Pietro as "pee-eh-troh". Merengue I pronounce as "mer-ang" like Lemon meringue pie. I pronounce Chevre as "Sche-ve-rrah" though I have heard it as "chev" and "cher".

erm, pardon the intrusion but i've always wanted to know how others pronounced the villager names with -oe?
e.g., moe & pekoe :B

- - - Post Merge - - -

and 'julian' as well! (i say joo-lyan, but i think it should be hoo-lyan or something along the lines of that :>)

I say Julian with a hard J sound like you

I pronounce Jambette as "jam-bet".

Moe as "Mow" like mow the lawn. (also The Three Stooges-Larry, Moe and Curly.)

Pekoe as "pee-ko". Like, a silent 'e'.

Julian I pronounce as Joo-lee-ehn"

I used to pronounce Chevre as shev-ree, but I looked it up and I think it's actually shev-err or shev (trill) hruh . With the re like a "guttural trill" as the site said.
