I made a thread related to this a few days ago, and I felt like just making a new thread to go a little more depth into it. So here we are.

So, what is this challenge? Well, it really isn't a challenge to most... but it is to me. Like I mentioned in my previous thread, the way I started playing Animal Crossing New Leaf changed drastically when I joined these forums back in 2016 and I've stuck to that playstyle almost religiously since then. This "Challenge" is my way of amending that, so I've decided to do this "challenge" to give New Leaf one last hurrah and play it until New Horizons comes out.

Right, the challenge. Here's what it entails: basically, this challenge is me going back to how I use to play Animal Crossing -- just for the hell of it. No sticking to themes, hunting down 'dreamies'. Literally just playing and seeing how it goes.

What I'll be doing for this town:

  1. I'm limiting myself to two dreamies. I can pick two villagers of my liking and adopting them. All other villagers must be obtained through natural move outs and new villagers moving in or my Camp Site until I gather 10 villagers I like.
  2. Absolutely no plot resetting, besides for my two dreamies. I can however place patterns around my house and to protect some hybrids area.
  3. No town theme. The town has to build itself. I can landscape and all that, but there will be no "this is a zen town!" nonsense. My town is gonna be a platter of "what the heck is this?!"
  4. BE MORE OPEN TO TIME TRAVEL. This is a big one. I use to time travel like mad when I was younger in previous titles, but ever since I joined here and I saw people's opinions on the topic I slowly started to dislike the concept of it as I considered it "cheating". Well, no longer. If I screw something up or I need to get something faster, I'm being a sneaky traveler of time.

So, yeah, there we have it. I'm going back to my roots here. Planning on starting it later tonight or tomorrow.

Edit: I'm also going to be doing this when New Horizons comes out as well

Good luck with your challenge! I hope that getting back to your roots helps you enjoy playing Animal Crossing even more. :)

I've been tempted to do something similar because I miss the way I used to play, but it wasn't really the forums that changed me and made me get so hung up on plot resetting and landscaping. It was actually some of the mechanics of New Leaf. All the grass wear and the way villagers wanted to plot right on my doorstep drove me to it. I've been wanting to either get back into playing the older games or maybe give New Horizons a chance (if I can justify buying a Switch) so that I can play again with a more laid back style.

Honestly, I'm OK with the super picky playstyle I've adapted, but I'm hoping doing this will make me play for a longer time. All my themed towns last me at best two months before I get bored because I progress too quickly. I get most of my dreamies in a week, etc...

So doing this stuff will basically force me into having A LOT of different villagers until I come across villagers I like and decide to let stick around. After all the villagers are in, I can work on my town and make it less not pretty. No theme or anything, just pretty. I'm hoping it'll create something unique and not planned out like most towns are.

good luck! i might do this with new horizons but im still gonna stick to a theme, just not drill it so hard lol.

also,,,, how is this trademarked lol
