There’s a county in Texas called “Deaf Smith County.” It was named after none other than Deaf Smith, a scout during the Texas Revolution. Smith was partially deaf (hence his nickname), but it was pronounced differently back then.

(A little weird to keep pointing out a dude’s disability via a nickname, but this was the 1800s.)

And! If you sell it as a hot item, you get double the money that's in the box!

The other night someone posted what they thought was a baby seagull, but it was really a plover. So I just HAD to find out what an actual baby seagull (seaglet?) looks like. I love their little spots!

I learned that Plato invented Atlantis. For some reason I thought Atlantis sprouted from folklore -- but no. Fiction from Plato. I must learn more -- if its from a fictitious story, why do people go searching for it? Why are there History Channel documentaries dedicated to its apparent fall?
Everyone I mention this too is entirely underwhelmed by the fact, but PLATO MADE UP ATLANTIS
