Li'l Petey was inspired by Dav Pilkey's mother! I was watching an old video of Pilkey drawing my favorite Dog Man character just today, and he had this to say about her:

cavities are "contagious" meaning the bacteria that cause them can be transferred through saliva. i have ocd so i don't share food or drinks but now i feel more justified in having qualms about it. sharing food is a big part of our culture, people often eat out of the same pot and dishes, which i personally always hated. not just in family settings either, you often share food in restaurants with your friends, coworkers, etc. thankfully it's gotten a lot better now and there's been a big shift away from it. growing up i would get in trouble for not sharing my food and i would just think to myself, "why can't we just eat what we ordered...?"

It's one of the reasons I never really cared for buffet restaurants and haven't went to one now that I'm not a kid. At least not ones in the states that aren't as upscale. I've seen people just grab food with their hands, finger eat it and then dip back, sneeze/cough before handling the spoons, ect. It's just gross.
