I have had tin cans outside for 3 days now and I have seen a grand total of 0 flies. Has anyone caught one? How did you do it?

I caught one after waiting around the same amount of time as you. I had 2 boots outside. I think it's just really random and the spawns are somewhat rare.

I left a boot I fished out of the water out and managed to catch one that way. Set up an area because you need to be careful, running near them causes them to fly away.

I did catch one, I used boots and cans, I had several lying outside and just kept occasionally checking them while playing through the day. It took me like a week I think to get mine. I accidentally scared two away before I caught one.

I've seen two outside using rotten turnips. I caught neither, because sadly ants were there as well and both times I caught an ant instead of the fly. :(

I got one a few minutes after I put my trash down? wow rip man

the only thing I could suggest is maybe make sure the trash isn't in your field of vision and go afk or do some in-game chores or something. I think if you enter buildings or quit the game they reset. I'm lichrally just assuming this tho, I left my trash lying there for a few mins and came back to see the fly hovering above it. it wasn't difficult to see or nothing

Are they difficult to see?

Yeah, when they're sitting still. Sometimes they're easier because they start flying, doing a small circle around the trash, and then landing again. They do make a noise when flying, but not when sitting still.

I put a single tire on the beach and after a few hours, when I wasn't even looking for it, I saw a fly getting inside the tire as I was walking through the beach. Then I slowly walked to the tire and after a few seconds, the fly came out again and I caught it.
