The bug off!! Discussion :D

Hey guys

Seeming as today's the bug off! contest, I thought it might be cool so start a thread to compare results with each other/ trade winning furniture (apologies of something like this already exists for today's event, I couldn't find one)

Ill start with my results:

First I had a brown cicada: 21 points
Followed by a walking cicada: 26 points
Then a darner dragonfly: 42 points
Then a villager beat me with an agrias butterfly: 69 points
So I gave a raja b butterfly: 88 points - winning a caterpillar sofa.

As i have work from 12pm to 10pm I had to get my best results in fast so I could guarantee a win, so I then gave in a birdwing butterfly for 112 points, winning me a ladybird chair. Shortly after I caught a second but that was only worth 111 points.

I'm gutted I can't play no more due to work - but two bug items and a high scoring bug is a good result for an hours play I think :D

Well done!! I gave in the following but I can't remember the scores for them;

Flea
Saw stag
Banded dragonfly
Rainbow stag (caught in another town last night and forgot to sell)

I got 108 points for the rainbow stag (which got me 1st place) and I also got two pieces of bug furniture, the ladybug carpet and the firefly lamp.

I rolled over my competition with 141 points for a golden stag. Yes, I intentionally got a bunch of beetles at the island last night for the Bug-Off.

I got the gold bug trophy (which I traded someone here for a silver, since I already have a gold one) and I got 5 of the insect series items. :)

Like DJStarstryker I prepared last night and won gold with a 132 point Golden Stag. Managed to net myself 5 new pieces of the insect series today.

Currently 108 points for birdwing. Didn't prepare last night. I had no idea it was today.
I obtained Butterfly Wallpaper, Beetle Chair and Honeybee Chest from this Bug-Off
I have a tarantula in one of my rooms. are they good for points?

The birdwing is higher in the hierarchy than the tarantula according to this/, but if I'm reading it right, it's still possible to beat your birdwing with a tarantula

I'm planning on taking it slow this time. Turn in smaller to larger insects to get all the goods. I also have some Island beetles stored away so I can take away the gold trophy :D

Also, can you edit the title to Bug Off, hah :p

i did not turn in the smaller insect as i did not know how it is supposed to work...

but i won with a birdwing at 114 points... seems like birdwing will be a good winner....

I did the exact same thing...and THOUGHT the exact same thing too about the thread title. I got like half the bug set before I couldn't go on anymore. My highest was like 132 or something.

I'm currently in First, with a 131 Point Golden Stag...

Well, in my town, anyway.

You must depart your excellent Tarantula catching knowledge on those less fortunate like myself :D

It's easy.

You have to use the "stun-lock" method I use. When you find a Tarantula/Scorpion you walk up to it with your net until it gets startled. Once it hisses you stop completely in your tracks. Once it finishes hissing immediately move toward it again and when it hisses stop once more.

The trick is to prevent the beast from walking away whatsoever. When they finish hissing they just stay still looking at you for 1~2seconds, then they'll wander off again. Do not let them do this. You want to walk closer to them while they're still looking at you, and don't worry - simply looking at your direction doesn't count as them being aggressive toward you, only when they hiss.

You just repeat until you're close enough to catch. This method prevents them from wandering off and despawning or jumping into a body of water. You catch them 100% as long as you don't screw it up somehow.

First was in the lead with a Mantis worth 73 points
Then was in the lead with a Jewel Beetle worth 85 Points
Now in the lead with a Peacock butterfly worth 94 points

Got the Stripe Lamp, Honeybee Chest & Beetle Chair

Took first place with a 32 pt dragonfly, got a certificate. Haven't started bringing out my island haul yet. Is it best to submit them in order of bell value?

thanks so much for this. I have been utterly failing because I'm used to the way they acted in the last two games. This is a huge help!

As far as the Bug-Off goes, I was totally sabotaged by a Raja B that got 97 points and basically made about 12 of my bugs useless. I am currently in the lead with 129 (gold stag, normal size but good luster, he says). Only got 5 pieces of bug furniture, I was really hoping for more.

A few days ago now, I watched a video on YouTube about catching Scorpion's and this YouTuber had five attempts at catching the scorpion.
Four out of five of them ended up with the scorpion walking into a pool of water.

I decided to try and see what would happen if I just walked up to a Tarantula and Scorpion with my bug net ready and I caught them on my very first attempt.
