Why is it that Hans...a freaking YETI is so unloved by so many people. Is it just because of the use of the gorilla character model, or is it something else? Let's look into this interesting mystery shall we? This..is the Ballad of Hans...the Unloved Yeti

I think one of the reasons might be because is because of all the attention that Marshal, a fellow Smug villager, gets. Before you leave the thread because of that, just let me finish!

Marshal is kind of cute....but....how is that different from most of the other squirrels? Hans however, while he does use the gorilla's character model is clearly supposed to be a Yeti! Such a cool cryptid. I like to think that his back story is that he is fed up with hiding, and has decided to go out into the world and make a name for himself!

Hans and Marshal are also both smugs, known for flirting with female characters. Now, while I am a dude, I have both Male and Female characters. Hans is a YETI, essentially a famous celebrity! Now just even talking to a celebrity is cool enough, but having a famous person flirt with your female characters....WOW! Marshal...I guess is kind of cute...but...that is what 75% of the squirrels are like. How is it that Marshal, just an average squirrel, gets much more attention?

Next, lets talk about something a bit darker as to why people might not like him.....His appearance! How is that dark you might ask? Well let me explain! From what I have experienced on this site, it seems that a majority of people here think that 'you are cute or you suck!'. This...is....the DUMBEST...logic ever! Why only use cuteness as a deciding factor? Is there really a town in real life where EVERYONE is cute? No! I think, that a true town is to bring many kinds together. The cutes AND to cools should get along! Having a town with only 1 or the other is kind of sickening. Why exclude others just for the appearance. Now I know a while back I said something about Fang's appearance, and I sincerely apologize for what I said. Now back on topic, it takes all kinds to make the world go round. For example is Quasimodo worth hating just because of his unpleasant appearance. No! It takes the way people act that should define how people feel! I know that might sound a bit hypocritical, because of my dislike of Marshal, but I have visited a town with Marshal, and all he did was be mean to me! Now, am I saying that Marshal acts that way to everyone! Than again....he did pick up Crouqe's catchphrase, that might have something to do with why he said such mean things to me.

Now, for the final thoughts. Should everyone love Marshal? No! Should EVERYONE love Hans? No. I just want to say that it takes all kinds to make this world go round!
 
UGH WE GET IT ALREADY, YOU LIKE HANS NOT MARSHAL. YOU DON'T HAVE TO MAKE MORE THAN ONE THREAD.
 
Look, I don't find Marshal to be that cute either, but obviously, lots of people do. It's also obvious lots of people like cute villagers. What's wrong with that? These are pixels, no one's feelings are really getting hurt.

People don't find Han's appearance appealing, that's why they prefer Marshal. Simple.

It seems that everyone thinks that ONLY cuteness matters, and if you NOT cute than you should go die. That is how people have been acting since I have joined this forum. Why is that cuteness is the ONLY thing that matters in villagers. Is that how a mayor should act? "Your unpleasant to look at, so I am forcing you to leave"...what society works like that.

I was saying not EVERONE has to like or hate either of them. I just want to know why people have a prejudice against uncute villagers.

He may use the gorilla character model, but you are forgetting one inportant detail, look at his coloring. White fur, blue skin, perfectly matches the description of the yeti. Julian is a unicorn, Phoebe is a phoenix, and Drago is a dragon....they use character models of other species, but are given special appearances, to be something new.
 
If someone doesn't like a villager, then they don't and there's nothing you can do about it. Rule of cute isn't stupid just because you do not agree with it, or because there is no such situation in real life. That's like saying Final Fantasy is trash because square decided to CG everyone to be good-looking. Games, even animal crossing, are not like real life, and that's just part of why we play them haha.

In a "world" where every personality shares a 90% common script with the rest of its types, aesthetics (cute, cool, makes a reference, uniqueness) always becomes the main deciding factor. A lot of people go "I don't get it, Marshal is just a white squirrel!" but if you look at his design, it's really easy to see why he's a top tier. Sometimes more is less and Marshal is hitting the bullseyes on the only important targets for people.

This is coming from someone who has Hans listed as a dreamie and not Marshal by the way.

I have seen his design, and don't care for it, just average like the other squirrels.
 
I'd never heard of Hans before today, so I googled him and I can say I prefer Marshal. I guess I'm biased, because I've had Marshal and he was one of my favorites when he lived in my town. I like yetis, but I guess I just don't like the gorilla model all that much; the only gorilla I like is Rocket.

Remember, this is just a game and these villagers don't actually have any feelings. They don't really care if you don't like them, or if you think they're ugly, and it doesn't make anyone a bad mayor to dislike certain villagers because of the way they look, especially when all smugs say the same lines, all snooties say the same lines, etc.

Honestly, you once compared the villager trading to slavery
Stop taking the game so seriously!! people are naturally going to get more cute villagers bc every villager is indentical in dialogue if their the same personality, so who would choose an uglier one?
I have lots of villagers i love others dont.. so what i couldnt care less what people think of my villagers, i like them and thats that

I know you have seen his design.

I'm not going to try to make you like Marshal, but understand the concept of simplicity and minimalism. Just because something lacks detail or fairy wings or glitter on its sporked horns doesn't mean it is not special. And even if he does not look special to you, he looks special enough to the majority of this forum to achieve first rank.

I know you are young among other things that make this idea hard to understand but the whole world does not revolve around you, your beliefs, your interests, and so forth!
 
People seem think it is another "Hate on Marshal thread"....AGGGHHH! That isn't even the stupid intention! Where in here did I say Marshal was terrible? WHERE?!?! Maybe it came off that way, but it was not the intention! I have said it before I SUCK AT MY WORD CHOICE! What the INTENDED meaning of this thread is "to look at Hans, and try to find out why he is so unpopular, and to see why so many people think only the cute villagers even deserve to be mentioned". I only brought up Marshal AT ALL because he happened to also be a Smug villager. If it hadn't been for THAT ONE THING ALONE I would not have mentioned at all.
 
FWIW, I had Hans for quite a while. And I hated him.

That's the way of the world sometimes. Everybody's got their favorites, and the bottom line is that more people prefer Marshal than Hans.
 
I'd say it's pretty much because not many people like the gorilla models and there are a lot of villagers with really universally appealing designs he has to compete with. I think it's that simple and there isn't a whole lot here to talk about. It's all about designs that appeal to many v. niche designs that strongly appeal to few.
