You know that feel, when you see someone else map and think "oof mine is so boring compared" and become annoyed with your island/super inspired. Currently experiencing that lol. I re-terraformed my entire island after I unlocked the ability and moved all my villager's houses, the shops, and museum to fit this new design but after all that effort and bells, it doesn't sit right with me. I don't think I used space efficiently so I want to re-terraform... again, but oh boy it's gonna be expensive and take forever. I don't have the heart to restart because I like most of my villagers and I don't wanna have to wait to unlock things or lose my museum donations.

In short, I hate how I spent bells and effort terraforming something I don't like, only to restart and spend more bells and effort.

Awww man that feeling of having an island that doesn't look as good as other people really sucks :( I see a lot of really awesome islands when I trade and mine never seems to be as good as I want it to be. I've opted to try to not compare my island to other people's ones but it's still hard.

I've moved my houses something like 5 times, so maybe I'm just never satisfied with my island to begin with.

As much as it sucks to re-terraform, I think if it bothers you a lot, you should just do it! Put your villager's houses and shops on the beach and out of the way and work on it until you're satisfied, then move them back! It should make it a lot cheaper to make changes :)

I really thought this was just me.. LOL! I completely destroyed most of my island and terraformed lots of changes in.. Then I fly over someone's again and I'm like.. Wow so amazing mine is such poo. And then wonder what I can do to improve

It's totally okay and normal to feel that way, but as long as you're happy with your island and love what you see, that's good enough, I'm sure others flying over think the same about yours too

Definitely understand... I've completely destroyed everything twice so far.

Yeah!! I try not to compare either. Some people are just crazy amazing planners. Tis but a work in progress but, a bell eating one lol.

Just do it!
Don't let your dreams be dreams!.
Game ain't going anywhere, just keep doing it until you're happy

It's funny you suggest that cause I posted on a thread that I hate having my villagers houses on the beach but using that as a means to terraform without them getting in the way is super smart!! Thanks for the suggestion!

I feel the same way whenever I see someone with a sink area in my town or seeing people with fancy cliffs and waterfalls. But I try to stick to my own style and still use some of their ideas. If I do end up getting a second copy, might as well try the stuff I hadn’t done before in terraforming so I won’t cause too much damage in my town.

Hahaha you're welcome! Although you hate it, they really get in the way of huge terraforming projects so the beach or peninsula is the way to go in terms of saving money haha

EXACTLY!! Watching island tours on youtube really blows it outta the park too because someone made a beautiful Studio Ghibli island and I was like oop lol. And aww thanks :)

Yep. Completely destroyed the left half of my island and it's gonna take almost another week to be "done" again. I almost considered restarting rather than putting in the egregious amount of bells and time, but I've found a lot of fun in redecorating and rearranging my island.

Plus, it's a nice change of pace from the burnout I was getting playing for hours everyday. It's slow going but choosing what to move and demolish each day to make sure I spend the least amt of time and bells on structures and then spending a little while decorating whatever new area's been opened up for the day.

You're right! The game isn't going anywhere. Gotta fight that urge to have the amazing, stunning perfect island immediately haha.

My brother has a copy on his switch. He doesn't play that much so I might just go and use his if I really need a fresh island lol. I'm sure he wouldn't mind. He only likes to fish.

Yeah, the burnout plays a part in the UGH feeling haha. I spent so many hours making what I have now and look where that got me. Should take it slower this time around and really plan it as I move along instead of quicky slapping something together.

I know exactly what you mean! I recently demolished my island, removed all pathways, broke down all cliffs, patched up rivers, and chopped down all my trees! I feel like making a new town keeps the game fresh for me as I went from a suburb to a city! Highly recommend doing it despite my initial dread!

I feel you so so much. It’s always towards when I’m almost done terraforming that I get this feeling. I noticed it’s mostly after I’m done with my downtown area (modern/city) that I feel this. I guess I just really am more fond of the rural foresty vibe so whenever I’m in the shops / restaurants part of my island, I’m not quite pleased. I have this nagging feeling that I should’ve just kept the island more natural but then, what to put in a natural looking town, right? Most of the furniture and amenities are modern looking and you need them out to get the five star rating. It’s not like they’ll give you a five star for just having trees and ponds and lakes. Oh gosh.

I get this. I am happy with what I did so far, but I have ideas, and I don't think they'll ever stop. I've found peace in not calling it done at any point and instead considering it more of an ongoing project!

I understand what you mean do much! I am currently moving all the buildings for the third time, this time to the beach so I can slowly build up my island, this time with thought and the way I really want it to be. Luckily I want finished at all, so it's not like I have to break down much.

I totally relate! 😭😭 After seeing so many beautiful islands, I wanted to give terraforming a try. ..and now my island is destroyed ; v ; Despite flattening my land and removing my rivers, I feel extremely content that I did so. I just wish I wasn't so broke so I can move buildings to-and-from the beach 😣💦

I'm also facing the dilemma of, "island theme" TTvTT I don't know if I should make a pastel fairytale forest island (which seems kinda repetitive), or a celestial/ magical/ witchy island. I found some paths that I absolutely love, but literally nothing matches with them! 😭😭😭💔 I cri.

I think there’s an important real life lesson to be learnt here. Don’t compare yourself to others, only to yourself; and you’ll end up living a much happier life. My mom spent years playing New Leaf without ever visiting another soul, we finally had a “play date” and once she saw my island, she was never the same. She ended up quitting the game altogether a few weeks later because she said no matter how hard she tried, her island could never look as pretty as mine.

I feel ya. Everyday I see something amazing on social media that I want to recreate on my island, but it wouldn't fit anywhere and doesn't suit it anyway. I learned to divide my island into sections and stick to where things are. I chose a place for my museum and hated it in the beginning, but I just left it standing and continued with my plan. After a while I figured out what I could do with the limited space after people don't have with their museum, and now I absolutely love my museum area. It looks unique while integrating popular ideas, and it suits my personal vision.

This is what I've been doing so far. I find reasonable spots for things that I like and then work with it until it's amazing. If it doesn't work, I remove the path I don't like and just let it sit there for a couple of days until I come up with a new idea that I like to try. Sometimes a little change goes a long way.
