So, currently in the process of moving all my villager's houses and facilities out to the beach so I can redo my island's design to something more thought out. While my current ideas were great, they just didn't end up looking how I had planned. So, while I'm moving buildings, I went back to the drawing board and I have a rough 'draft' of what I was thinking of going with.

The idea is to have a river coming from the south end of the island, surrounded by cliffs to make a pseudo valley with most of the island being on the second and third tier cliffs, with a few things on the ground level. Mostly Resident Services, and perhaps Nook's Cranny. Not sure yet. As for the second river point on the west end of the island, I have a few ideas but I'm unsure of which I want to go with yet.

Anyways, here's what I have so far:

I'm not expecting to tweak too much, but I felt it would be a good idea to ask for a few opinions, or even suggestions that might catch my eye. Also, the edges will be rounded out. They won't be that straight, so don't worry there.

It's an interesting concept. Are you going to put a pond anywhere so you can get this fish? If so you might plan it out. I also know a couple fish only show up on top of and at the base of a waterfall. So if you care for that perhaps a small body of water that flows down and into the canyon.

I agree, I think this is a very interesting concept. The first thing I thought of was, depending on how the design shakes out in your actual game, you're going to have to get creative with the positioning of your ramps and bridges. Some areas in the valley will be very tight to navigate through, unless you plan to go all the way around just to access either side.

Yeah, I plan to add a few ponds in. Just having gotten around to that stage in planning yet.

Bridge and incline placement is something I'm pretty decent at, so I am not too worried there. As for the 'tightness' of the valley, that's intentional. I'm planning on making them small, natural pathways that open up to smaller areas in some spots, or lead to an incline. Sort of like a shortcut, I guess?

Soooo, slight update on my progress. I was going to make a new thread, but I remembered I made this one, so I'll just continue with this one.

I'm still not satisfied with the shape of the small river/lake on the west end of the island, so that's definitely not final and I'm not sure if I want to terraform it to fit a couple villager houses, or use it for a facility. Might use this area for the Cafe, if it gets added this September/October.

I'm also not sure where I want my player's house to go yet. I was thinking in the top left area, above that little lake area but I'm just not sure about it yet. Depends on what I come up with for the rest of the right side of the valley and also what I figure out with the left side.
