I played tera during beta- and after- till about last year: then I rejoined temporarily for the new updates.
I can honestly say it was super fun- and addicting during the whole Lvl 1-6O experience. I used to be hardcore (with multiple max lvl/gear/toons) and one of the first few people running/clearing MCHM back in the day before they made that easy, along with WHHM (wonderholme hm).
Essentially: all the items that people would work hard farming-> went down; and they made the drop rate higher. and all (if not most) things that were a necessity- ended up costing an arm and a leg in that game. Their "loot boxes" were a joke too. Anywhere from an average of 45$ (if you were extremely lucky) to 200$ (and still not finding the new costume/mount/etc.) as stated on several forums. Myself included at times (having experienced both Extremely Lucky - Unlucky).
Community had its ups and downs. Aside from the usual "trolls", I met my bf as well as several other amazing friends from that game.
Overall, it's a great game; or - was - back then for me. I realized that the dev/gms really made it almost impossible for people to upgrade/enchant/re-roll gear in the game without blowing loads of $$$. And if anyone played tera end game- without having pretty nicely rolled/enchanted gear- you would find it "really" hard to find groups for pve, especially (pvp).
If you're into pvp; especially end game- tera is not for you (my opinion) unless you're willing to spend a LOT* of $$$.
Regardless- they are still updating. They recently added the long-awaited "reaper class". And I heard they were planning on releasing "new gear (yaaaay for more $$$ blowing) and instances".
Bottom line: Back in the day, Tera was reasonable; but now, (in my opinion) Unless you're willing to spend real life money on that game- you will find it difficult to truly enjoy "end-game".
If you played it before, I like to say "give it a try". Never hurts.
Tera had so much potential- but based on what i've seen and feedback from friends I used to play with- we moved on to new/or/diff games.
-Good luck if you get back into Tera-
