What do you base you're pokemon team off of? 1 type? Many types? Favorites?

Just wondering, here. I've been trying to get a variety of types myself, but I also want to go by favorites, and all my favorite pokemon are like, the same type. >_<

I try to make a team of balance.
I have at least one pokemon that has at least one attack that's super-effective against a type... for all types except dark and ghost.

Favorites? Pfft...

If only you people knew anything about battling.

Balance is one thing, but teams should be based off of a style of play. Agro Aggressive, defensive, aggressive, annoyance, turtling, etc.

For example, a good annoyance team would be Pokemon like Aipom, any kind of poison Pokemon, or anyone with Baton Pass. A good defensive team would be tougher Pokemon like Snorlax, etc.

I never have my pokemon set up for competitive battles

I'm way to lazy to train pokemon up to high levels. My Highest ever.. was like... 75 or somewhere around there.

I train to 100, but not for battles. Most competitive battles nowadays are at level 30, so it's easier to IV and EV train.

But whats the fun in having, for example, a defensive team with pokemon like Snorlax, if you don't like the pokemon you're using?

Thats what I meant by "favorites", sorta...

Exactly. As much as Charizard and Blastoise and Kingdra are good,I dont use them.

My team includes some of my faves.

I see where you're coming from, we each have our own favorite Pokemon we like (My level 100 Squirtle. <3), but in reality, simply choosing your favorites won't help unless your favorites are all working as this uber-team.

Well, one of my favorites is Salamence, and I've recently learned that it can be used in a battle and do quite well.

I like Shuckle too...it's all squishy.....

Yeah like Salamence can kill Palkia easy.

Variety. A common law with me. Right now in Pearl I have.

Chingling (Psychic)
Grotle (Grass/Ground)
Hoothoot (Norm./Flying)
Buneary (Normal)
Pachirisu (Electric)

Haven't caught yet...

Remoraid (Water)

Which when powerful will be

Chimecho, Torterra, Noctowl, Lopunny, and Octillery (Pachirisu does not have a baby or evolve).

Which are decent, and Heal Bell makes Chimecho a decent healer for a super powerful Pokemon.

Variety is always a key advantage.

I try to cover me weaknessess. My team-
(Note that I have the final form of all of these)

Name- Weakness- Resistance
Chimchar- Water, Ground, Rock- Grass, Bug, Steel, Ice
Turtwig- Fire, Bug, Flying, Poison, Ice- Water, Ground, Rock
Shinx- Ground, Rock- Water, Flying, Steel (I think)
Piplup- Electric, Grass- Fire, Ground, Rock, Steel
Abra- Ghost, Dark, Bug- Poison, Ghost, Fighting
Starly- Electric, Rock, Ice- Fighting, Bug, Grass

I missed a few, but you get the idea. Most of my team's weaknessess are covered. Plus I have an advantage to fighting and steel, which aren't even strong against any of those. Now once I get into the evolved forms, which I have, things get a bit more complicated. Torterra is good against electric and not weak to fire and poison, but Empoleon is weak to fighting, etc.
