Okay so I have been trying to catch these since the day they started spawning (I TT so it was a while ago haha) and I cannot for the life of me catch them! I have seen them 4 times and all 4 times they have 'disappeared' behind flowers or trees, its so frustrating! I even have a huge block of empty land trying to get them to spawn there but they just refuse...

Point of the story: Is there a way to stop them from disappearing behind flowers and trees? They never get angered and I never have my net out, btw

Thanks!

It's tough. I had a couple disappear on me. The one I finally caught, I just waited until he stopped moving, then I crept up on him with my net out. When he would start moving, I'd completely stop. When he would stop, I'd start creeping up on him again.

I don't know if that strategy would always work, but I'm just glad to be done with it (other than in my third town, where I still have to do it). If it helps, I saw three by the train station. That was my best place. The most frustrating thing is how rare they are and not being sure you can get one even when you see one.

Thanks for the tips! The tarantula was like the 3rd bug I caught when I first started playing, I didnt even know it was that rare and hard to catch then and then I restarted, bad idea!

Good luck trying to catch them >~<
My scorpions spawn at bottom right part of my town where you can see the beach. I was about to catch it until it decided to suicide of my map like 'ahaha nope ain't gonna catch me'.

If you're not carrying a net, they won't attack you.
I just got my net out and walked towards them...seems risky, but it actually worked for me :D
They also run towards you, so be sure to swing lel

Just run around your town once, and if you can't them, enter and exit a building then try again

Hold a net. They'll charge you, and if they catch you, you will faint, but it's certainly better than watching one of them disappear before you even had a chance.

Mmm I caught a tarantula by accident on my 2nd character. Didn't realise what it was straight away then I pulled out my net and just walked straight over and caught it. It's still sitting in her inventory since I don't want to donate it to the museum (trying to donate everything from the mayor). Might use it in one of my rooms as a little memory~ But I haven't seen one again or a scorpion on my mayor which I'm hoping will happen sometime.

They tend to appear near water a lot in my town, like the little pond or along the beach cliff. My mayor's house is on the cliff and I always tend to find one outside my door lol. My advice is to maybe pick up red flowers. I always mistake roses for scorpions. Also, the scorpions make a hissing sound. I play with the sound up louder than usual and if I hear it I stop and pull out my net. I can't remember if the tarantulas make noise. I find they are easier to catch in New Leaf because you can slowly creep up on them with the net out. In other games, I would just run around town holding a net waiting for one to chase me. :D

I never have that problem .-. I found 4 turatnulas last night 2 caught 2 attacked but I have never had any run off and hide on me XD

Tarantulas do make noise because that's how I found mine - it was a sort of quiet scuffling if I recall correctly. I was walking up one of my avenues, heard it and thought "that's funny", then saw the tarantula in the field beyond the trees. Had to double back quickly so I could get to it since it was a solid wall of trees and bushes in the way. I got it by coming up behind without it ever spotting me, but if they're like the scorpions you can get the net out and creep up very slowly as with island beetles: they'll see you and start making threatening poses but as long as you're SLOW they'll stay put and won't charge. That's probably the best way to do it without losing them into the river - let them see you.

I want more tarantulas for my house. I've been searching on and off at night but I haven't seen another one yet. They're too rare! :(

I can't find any in my town for the life of me to begin with. :(

I didn't know they made noise, I've heard that scuffling noise but for me it's always those beetles that show up on your trees.
