Villagers will leave their house behind when someone has invited them on that day but it still wouldn't be there the next day.

Oh right, I swear I've seen a picture where there house says 'I've moved' or something similar when you try to enter :/

That's what happens on the day they're in boxes, and someone else invites them to their town. It says "Moved Out" for me.
