hi!! so, for christmas my family all got new 3ds's! my brother today decided he wanted to transfer his old ds to the new one. i need some help, though!!

1: he already bought a theme and a digital copy of a game. how do we keep those on the ds during the transfer?
2: we forget the password and email for the nnid. is there any way to figure out what it is?
3: if his old ds was running out of space before transfer, will his new one also run out of space after transfer?

thank you! ;;

1. It will not work with his stuff, it wipes all stuff but what you just transfered.
2. Test e-mails
3. It shouldn't run out of room, it will keep all data. THe only difference is that the 3DS has a bigger SD card in visible, but it still holds the same.

how do we keep the game and theme, then? we don't want to have to buy it again

we solved the password issue!!!! once we find out what to do with the game we're gonna transfer it

From what I understand, you will have the game, but it will be 'fresh' , meaning that you will lose the progress made in the game.

I don't know about the theme though.

I recently did a system transfer and any games and themes you have will transfer to the new system. Any DLC also gets transferred, so you won't need to buy anything you bought in the past. Worst case scenario is that you would need to restart the game from the beginning again.

actually yeah, let me confirm this
1: thats fine. you can just do a full transfer and everything should be as it was before
2: contact nintendo
3: nope, the new 3ds has a bigger sd card but you can always change them-i had to change mine to 16gb because it couldnt cope

Are you saying the new 3DS has a theme and digital copy of a game? The data from the old 3DS will overwrite the data on the new one.

I wanted to do a system transfer but I chose not after finding out I would have problems since I used more than one SD card.

IF: The game and theme are on the new 3DS

IIRC in the past if the new 3DS isn't linked to a NNID it mayyyy survive the transfer, but I've never tested it myself so it'd be better to contact Nintendo support about the issue.

Best thing to do is before you start the transfer, install a 32gb high speed (this is important) micro SD card (32 is the highest that has been tested to work). It will run you about 50 bucks. Then when you transfer, you'll always have as much space as you could need. The card installed in both old 3DS and new 3DS is a 4gb. It doesn't give you a lot of option for downloading a lot of games.

I don't mean to hyjack the thread but I also have a question about system transfer. According to the 3DS manual, when you system transfer it doesn't actually transfer the save data from the original system's SD card to the destination system's SD card, it apparently just gives the destination system "usage rights" to use the data off the SD card of the original system, so then you would just physically transfer the SD card to the destination system once transfer is complete..

Since the "new" 3DS uses micro-SD, and it's not even easily accessible, I'm worried about my NL save data.. how can i continue to play my game on the "new" 3DS without starting over?
