Okay long story short I skipped from 2012 to 2017 just fine. Waited for the ping, no one moved in or left. But uh...we're in 2018 now. I forgot. So I have to 2018.

BUT I did ask Zucker to move in from another town. So here's my new question.

How can I get to the future safely...

Wait until he moves in, no one should ping to move for about five days after someone moves in,you can even wait for someone to ping, tell them no then tt to the proper time.
You should be able to tt safely.

So he's plotted but not officially moved in. But let's say a villager asks to move out and I say yes. I can skip forward and only lose them, right?

I think so, but you might get a random move in, I might not completely sure though.
I think the game counts tting as one day, no mater how far you go.
