Hello I recently delete my Island since I could not find a theme that I really love to decorated. I started my new Island and got the terraforming finally, but I haven't find a theme either 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ I am kind of stuck with what to do. I would love to see or hear ideas. If you can pls comment or post pic of yours, thanks.
** I really dont want to loose interest on the game 😕

Here’s a theme:
Carnival theme! There’s a lot of colorful items you can use. A lot of the new items coming in for fall could also work.

The carnival could have several different parts in the island.

-You have a park ( some items you can use: Elephant slide, springy ride on, swinging bench, tire toy).

-A food court with lots of stalls. There is also these items you can use: cotton candy stall, popcorn machine, frozen treat set.

-Carnival rides: race car bed as bumper carts, tea cup ride, you can also use the lifeguard chair with a small a plastic pool (kind of like a carnival dunk game). Or a lifeguard chair with screens around it (to pass it off as the tank).

-colorful wheel to spin for prizes (with a booth next to it with the prizes). You can have gold fishes as prices or doll, etc. also the toy bears.

-There’s lots of balloons from Redd to use. Also the balloons form the Easter event. The Easter furniture also look great in a carnival theme.

-A pumpkin patch from coming October update.

-A fortune telling area. You can use the plasma ball, fortune telling set, fortune cookie cart, etc.

-A face painting area. You can use painting set, nail art set.

-A spooky area (like a spooky ride forest ,etc). Carnivals always have a haunted area.

For villagers: Pietro works great, Muffy, marcel as a mime. Margie, Merengue, Elvis, etc.

Anyways, that’s an idea.
Good luck! Don’t get discouraged!

Thank you so much for the greatttttttt ideas, will use this :) :).!!!!

my favourite thing to do when trying to find new ideas and themes to try out is to look up the animal crossing items themselves, and see what i've got to work with. sometimes looking at the items can give you the best inspiration (: you could view them all on nook exchange, if you'd like.

I agree with @6iixx. There are lots of items that I initially thought wouldn’t look good just based off their pictures. After placing them in certain positions, I found them to be super useful for decoration!

And, you don’t need a theme to go off of, but to me it definitely helps to have one. I would say think of general ideas you like: enchanted forest, modern city, rustic town, tropical resort, winter wonderland, overgrown spring, vintage village, etc. These can all help cement the direction you’d like to take. :3

you dont have to have a theme to decorate your island, but if you do want a theme what about one of your favorite movies or books being the theme?

You could try to replicate areas in real life that you like.
For example, there's a botanical gardens near me that has a victorian style walled garden for vegetables and beehives. If I didn't already have a farm area in my town, I would probably try to build one of those instead.

For awhile, I postponed trying to decorate because of the lack of the furniture. I still am having difficulty and left some parts of my market stalls empty because the items aren’t really substitutable, but I have come up with a few new ideas because of the fair and because of the summer contest; they both pushed me to use Harv’s studio to experiment with furniture. My ideas have been based on areas in a favorite anime and video game series. Another area was based on a mixture of an ancient wonder of the world, an outpost in Dragon Age, an ark from Last Cloudia (gacha game), and an ancient maybe Egyptian bazaar/market (not based on a real one since i didn’t look at a picture for that part)..
