One day, I was at Club Tortimer. A girl asked "Do you mind if I take these down?". They were talking about the trees in the middle of the island. I said "I don't mind.". When she tried to chop the trees down, they acted as if they were made of rubber. It was the same effect you get if you hit a person with the axe. We were both very confused. I tried using the axe, and the trees cut just fine. Why couldn't she cut them down? We tried swapping axes, but she still couldn't cut them. I have never seen anything like this before. What was going on?

OMG, THAT HAS HAPPENED TO ME SOMETIMES, AND IT'S ANNOYING LOL.

But yeah, it's just a glitch that happens once every blue moon. It doesn't really show up that much, so I wouldn't be that worried.

I've noticed that too. It's either only with the palms or the fruiting/oaks at a time and sometimes, it's only with certain trees.

It happened to me on trees that were hit 1-2 times and then left alone (not chopped down). Then when a new player joins the island, those trees became unchoppable. At least it's how I think it works, but it doesn't always.

Is there a purpose to cutting them down? Does it help you get the more expensive beetles on the other trees?

The beetles that sell for more to NPCs spawn on the palm trees so usually people cut the normal trees and dig up bushes/flowers so that bugs will spawn only on palm trees (causing a higher spawn rate of "expensive" beetles).

How did I never think of this before?! I normally run and scare them away on the middle trees.

I keep my central trees. You can get giant stags, which give a lot of bells, and rainbow beetles, yellow scarabs, etc.
