Lately, in my game, I've been working on reaching a 3 star island for KK Slider etc.

Next, I know that I will be able to terraform and such. While this is all going on, I'm just focusing on doing my dailes, and also eagerly waiting for updates!

I guess my question is, once I unlock terraforming, is that basically the story portion and then I just continue with daily tasks, explore the new updates and content and so on? I'm not new to AC, and it is supposed to be a sort of living, breathing game which is really cool. But, are there any other objectives? For those of you that have completed 3 or even 5 star, how do you continue to play?

I continue by finishing everything, I suppose. I love working to collect every DIY and completing the museum. I like trying to make hybrids and completeling my catalogue. I also like trying to get all the Nook Mile achievements.

I slowly work on my town on the side as well and I still feel like I have a lot to do 😅

I continue by doing requests and finish catalogue and finish my town layout.

I guess my motivation for continuously playing this game everyday are collecting stuff. Especially getting the villager photos. Honestly, I could stop anytime and just open the game every time there's an update or when a new month/season kicks in just to collect the new bugs, fish, and seasonal DIYs. But I just find myself loading the game every single day just to see what happens in the island.

I have a 5 star island now and I'm focusing on growing hybrid flowers, selling all my fruit every day, keeping the island clean (collecting weeds and tree branches) and increasing friendship levels with my villagers.

i’ve been working on filling out my museum and decorating my island into a place i would want to live in real life! it’s definitely a slow enough process that it can provide hours and hours of something to do when you’re bored ^^

These are my exact thoughts. I told myself I’d slow down once I finished terraforming but I find that once I have the time, I load the game and do a run around my island trying to decide what to do first and before I know it, a couple hours have gone by.

I’m only 4 star and I’m not even sure my island deserves that. I keep playing to collect stuff. I also don’t want to miss days of playing because I like my villagers and I don’t want to make them sad. I like decorating my house and getting clothes. So even though I was initially disappointed that there was no more “story” I found there is still so much more to do.

I'm 3 star (somehow...my island is a trash heap) and just focusing on cataloguing and collecting all the bugs, fish, DIYs etc. Terraforming is super hard for me but if that's your thing you can easily sink days into it

My goals are getting an island mostly full of adorable villagers with the music hobby, growing all of the different types of hybrids, collecting all furniture/clothing/DIY's, and finishing out all wings of the museum. (So basically, ALL THE THINGS! ^-^)

I want my island to have a mostly natural look except for the roads and the various "music areas" around my island for my villagers to use. So theres not an incredible amount of decorating that I need to do. But even so I'd like to have all of the options available to me.

Honestly the most difficult part of all this is going to be getting 10 villagers I'm happy with. I do want everyone to have the music hobby, so they sing and play the instruments that I have out.

But I've already sort of grown super attached to Audie, Lobo and especially Chrissy. None of whom have the music hobby. And none of which I'm considering letting go. So right there I'm down to 7 possibilities. But I also have Ankha, who's really super cute and I have the Freya amibo to put her on my island too.(my islands name is Valhalla, and I MUST have Freya on that island)
Which leaves me with 5 music's hobbyists to find, locate and love. Which isnt enough. And then I go back and forth over who I really want forever on my island.

So you see, your own insanity can keep you busy too! You just have to be imaginative. Hehe~

I like to think of the beginning before KK comes, as the "tutorial" and that the game really starts after that. Once you get terraforming, you can make your island into your dream home! There's so many possibilities and you are no longer held back by requirements to teach you to do stuff! I really enjoy it. Plus, I'd like to think that each seasonal event that comes by is a part of the "story" mode of the game. And if you're active online, having people come to your island or you going to theirs makes the island life way more fun and interesting!

finish the museum
get all bug and fish models
grow all hybrids
get all diy recipes
fill the catalog
complete the nook miles badges
fully expand and decorate player house(s)
earn villager portraits from all my (semi)-permanent villagers
give (semi)-permanent villagers awesome clothing
customize yards for all my (semi)-permanent villagers
terraform and decorate the rest of the island as I want
develop my own patterns for decorating
use my amiibo cards to get villagers for others
use harv's island to get posters from amiibo villagers
make interesting scenes on harv's island
replace (semi)-permanent villagers and then need to re-customize yards and earn new villager portraits
decide I want a major change and re-terraform and decorate my island all over again. Or restart and repeat everything.

By that point we should have the NEXT animal crossing LOL

Did I miss anything?

i reached 5 stars a few weeks ago and now i just focus on expanding my catalog, collecting all the diys, decorating my house and island while also aiming to get all my dream villagers ;u;

I'm kinda glad the "story" is over. I just wanna do my own thing and not be forced to craft things I don't wanna craft.

While there are goals and projects I make for myself to give myself something to do, ig I don't often think of AC from the perspective of "start game, finish game, put game away on shelf" but more like a hobby in its own right apart from gaming as a whole. Even if I completed everything I wanted to complete, I'd still love waking up in the morning to enjoy the island I've built and the villager friends inhabiting it.

I've even found myself lately just fishing for fun. Not to reach a Nook Miles achievement (though that is certainly in my future), not to catch a fish I haven't caught yet, not to even make bank on sharks. There's just something calming about casting the line in the rippling water and waiting...
