storing patterns with mabel

i have a pattern i made as my town flag, but i'd like to store it with mabel to give me some extra room for paths. if i store it, will my flag still be replaced by whatever pattern i put in that slot instead?

worst comes to worst i suppose i can make another side character for extra storage, but i already have one and would rather not make another if i can avoid it.

You can store the flag pattern safely, without your flag changing when you put a new pattern in your design slot. The same goes for custom signs and standees.
