Storage: What do you do if you are a hoarder?

So.... I hoard things. All things. Right now I've kept it to my storage locker but I'm pushing into page 2 on section C. My house is filled with stuff but I want to start decorating and don't want all this random stuff up in my house. Upon googling some people use a Museum expansion or extra characters for their storage. Something else I saw was to not even worry about it and just get rid of stuff since you can just order later through the catalog if you want it. (does this apply to island, fortune cookie, and the DLC items?).

What do you suggest and how do you deal with all your hoarding tendencies, lol?

i use all 4 museum expansion rooms and hoard furniture sets/bush starts in them,
i haven't tried making a new character for storage yet as i don't really know where to plot the house lol

I have a second character for storage... but... I've realized I don't even need to hoard all that stuff, so I did a giveaway, though have yet to actually give all the prizes. :'> I also have been making use of 3 museum rooms... lol

sometimes I catch myself holding onto orderable stuff, and then I suck it up and sell it if I'm really not gonna use it. or I give it to villagers.

You can use the museum exhibition space, make up to 3 extra characters and use their locker and house space, or you can also try to cut down on some items (by selling all re-orderable items to Reese for example, as you can buy them back at any time).

Yeah I'm gonna try sell my re-orderable stuff, I think.

I'm dealing with my hoarding tendencies by running my tbt shop trying to get rid of excess items. I have stuff literally all over the ground in my town, my residents call it a landfill according to the citizen satisfaction survey!
I used to hoard streetpass items to give them out to people who never met anyone via streetpass, so I'm planning on doing another giveaway for what I have left. And I attempted collecting villager pics once upon a time and they're in my museum room, I was doing giveaways for those yesterday but still have more D:

If you get really desperate, you could start using the post office to store your things... Just attach your items to letters and save them.

If you're not sure if something can be ordered through the catalogue, you can check at MoriDB.

I sold every re-orderable that I wasn't going to use im the near future, because.. I can re-order them. You can use saved letters, museum rooms to hoard. Saved letters are kind of tedious. All in all, I would say the quickest way to solve is just put them all over your town and allow people to take as they please. That fixed my problem right away!

I'm a hoarder as well , if something is reorderable though and I don't need it I sell it as I'm happy to just have the option to order it. I've got three towns, two of which have all museum rooms full of non order able items and quite a bit of the storage over the mayors and side characters. I have given lots of streetpass items, Japanese items and rare items away but I think I need to stop being lazy and host a big giveaway at some point.

I have the following strategies:

- sell/trade/throw away everything that is reorderable.
- create multiple characters and use them as mules.
- keep stuff in all your characters' letters and save them in the post office.
- use some areas of your town (specially if you have private beaches) to hoard most of your stuff.
- get all museum expansions and keep some stuff there.

^This, and upgrade all characters' houses and fill unused rooms with stuff. (Though that's mostly things I would sell to others, if I had the motivation to do so...)

I have an extra town with a house that holds all the DLC and un orderable DLC. It also has clothing on display.
Use it as my showcase house.
In my main town I kept HHA items, trophies and special items in my saved mail. All the Gracie dresses, wigs and umbrella are in my saved mail. Very easy to find.
Every 3 weeks I try to go thru the players closets and clean them up. I have a set of clothing for each theme for my lucky day item.
All the items I don't want get sold or sent to a villager. I have a trash can in my museum and sometime will just throw it in there when I do a big clean out.

I have two side characters whose storages are filled to the brim, as is my main character's, and there's random stuff from trades strewn ALL OVER the station and plaza. I just now unlocked the second floor of the museum or w/e and bought access to the first two rooms so I can dump a lot of it in there. Even if it's reorderable I have a super hard time parting with it... I'm gonna need to check my stuff against the MoriDB databases (and then double check if it's something I really love, lol, because they aren't always 100% accurate) and just bite the bullet and start selling things back to ReTail and the Nooklings, and/or host a giveaway/grab-bag thing. I want to actually sit down and do this like, tomorrow, because having so much stuff all over the ground is seriously starting to annoy me >_> And not knowing which character is holding what items, ugh. LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES ;-;

Thanks everyone!! I feel better about trying to keep so much of my stuff and knowing what to get rid of.

I have another character for some storage, but I have a trash bin in my house in case I want to throw the stuff away. I hoard things too, but I always throw it away or sell it once it gets too out of control... Having a separate character has pros and cons to it, prose being the copious amounts of storage, cons being switching back and forth when you need things and the inconvenient house you need for it all.

I'm like most of the previous posts but I will mention another thing I've done recently. Sell all the furniture you can get from Gracie, if you don't plan on using it. I know it's not reorderable but it isn't that hard to get, like a one day thing, and takes up 13 spots for each set which is a lot when you add it all together.

I would also not store things that you can walk over when you put them on the ground. Stuff like pinwheels, wands, wallpaper, carpets, etc. Stuff like that doesn't count toward the maximum allowance for items in a room so I would store it in a random museum room or something.

Just a few tips :) hope this helps!
