I think it happened to me once where I went to someone else's town that had voided someone recently and I gained them the next day. No offense, but I don't want to chance it seeing that I could possibly grab someone else that I don't want and would have to get out.

It happened to me when I was cycling. Someone was trying to make room to take one of my villagers I was offering, and the villager that was voided ended up in my town. I also gave one of my voided villagers to a cycle town when I accidentally voided them. I've only heard of the last villager that was voided being adopted so I think as long as Astrid was the last, you'd get Astrid o-o It's up to you whether you want to try it or not though.
