steps to do before restarting?

While I have never restarted, I would think that saving anything you want to keep such as villagers, items, clothing, bells, NMT or anything of value that you want to keep, with a trusted friend is the first step! Then maybe make a checklist of particular features or items you want your new island to have and see if it meets the criteria. Otherwise, lots of patience!

If you have any friends who play who are willing to hold on to any materials, items, villagers, furniture etc. it'll save you a lot of time from getting those things back
If you have an idea of which villagers you want to start with, fruits, airport colour, native flower etc, that'll narrow down your islands a lot but could take a long time to get what you want.

is there a specific forum i need to post a thread on to find someone? :0
you could probably post on the airport or dodo, i feel like i've seen a few posts like that!
1. spend your nook mile points (i forgot to do tht before restarting)
2. try to have an idea of what map you want before u restart (if ur as picky as me restarting will take forever)
3. try to get duplicates of diy's
can't really think of much else rn. when i restarted i left my items at my friends town and it took me a week to find my perfect island so definitely make sure u can find urs asap ;-;

That's actually a really great question. I would say maybe the Airport would be a good place to post? I've seen people posting on Nook's Cranny as well by advertising that they would pay the host for their efforts in holding said items, villagers etc. Maybe someone can help clear it up on this thread? If not, you can probably make a new thread asking where or ask the mods!

that's good! i was more picky so i took into account my airport color, where i wanted my pier, tht extra strip of land tht sticks out, the secret beach, and even some rock formations. i was also more lenient w fruit as long as i got cherries & apples since u can grow all the fruits on the island.
ugggghhhhh, what had slipped my mind was the pier length so i ended up w a short one though i'm too far in to reset over that now :c
but these are just some things to keep in mind! c:
