Statue of Liberty's crown reopening

I went there once... didn't actually go inside or anything. But now they will be letting people back inside all the way up to the crown. A long time ago you could go in the torch.

Why wasn't it allowed to go any higher?

owh and I never went to the statue of liberty but is there a restaurant up there? I remember some years ago when i was in paris in December we went ice skating on the eifeltower, so are there similar activities to do there except for sightseeing?

No, it's a statue not a building.

No, it's a statue not a building.

or wasn't there any specific reason?

oh right what i was going to say was; you don't walk in statues so i'd say the "statue" of liberty is more like a building rather than a statue

I've never been to New York :O I must to the crown once I do go there! I live all the way in California, so it's expensive to get all the way over there.

Someone probably did something stupid to get it closed.

Or it just got old and unstable.

I've never been able to go all the way up to the crown before, so I might take a trip there.

They closed down the crown and the statue for awhile because of 9/11 and they felt that the statue of liberty would be a big target because terrorists would love to bomb a symbol of our country.

I JUST went to the statue of liberty last week on a field trip. They have high security there, you have to go into these capsule things that blow air on you to see if you have explosives and all of that security stuff. You can only go as high as the stone base .. the walkway up to the crown is closed off. Too bad they didn't open it before I went there for the field trip, I would have liked to go up to the top. And it's pretty cool because there's a little museum in the statue.

I believe a long time ago you use to take a small staircase up to the torch and walk around the torch .. but I think someone tried to commit suicide up there, so it's now closed.

No, I think the torch is closed because it's unstable.
