I am back to writing more entries to my fanfiction on StarFall's winter carnival. Even if that week is over in real life, it's still that week. Last from where I left off was at the treasure hunt. The next two entries are on the last two contests in the story (besides the Friday Contest).
The carnival opened at 10:00 AM on its fifth day, Thursday. There are two more contests to be ran for the week. Pekoe, Pate, Phoebe, Willow, Drift, Deli, Julian, and Chow all stood in line in front of the gate at the spiral mountain, where the shallow slopes are covered in snow. Lenny came to the gate.
"You must've been super excited for your impending contests," said Lenny. "Today, you will be participating in the second race of the winter carnival. If you didn't bring a sled, we have eight sleds on top of the mountain. Your goal is to get to the bottom of the mountain before anybody does. If you jump off the mountain by accident or on purpose, you will automatically get teleported to the front gate, as you are disqualified for safety reasons. The prize is only for whoever finishes the race by staying on track the whole time. The first place winner gets a golden sled trophy, a blue ribbon, and a well-decorated sleigh on your own. And did I forget to mention, a chance to playing in tomorrow's ultimate contest? The second place winner gets a silver sled trophy, a red ribbon, and a regular sled. Third place winner gets a bronze sled trophy and a yellow ribbon. And one more thing. There is an elevator that will take you to the top of the mountain. This is where you will go to in order to begin the race. Now go have fun getting on a sled!"
The eight contestants went through a tunnel on the spiral mountain. At the end is an elevator. They went up the elevator and picked a sled to ride on. All eight sleds were painted. Pekoe picked up the pink sled. Pate had the purple one. Phoebe took the orange one. Willow got on the yellow one. Drift picked red, Deli picked light blue, Julian picked dark blue, and Chow picked green. When they all got in position, the race has begun.
The difference in elevation if following a radial path increased by 10 feet each level down. The mountain overall is 550 feet high. The track has a few obstacles like eroded away track, blockades, and slippery slopes that drive the sled off-track. The animals were able to pass through three levels of elevation. On the fourth one, Phoebe's sled jumped off on accident when her sled slid on ice. She survived due to teleporting, but her sled went out of the course. It hit Ankha's snowman in the Snowmobile testing area. Pekoe's sled, instead of jumping over the boulder, hit the boulder, causing her sled to capsize. Pekoe was teleported before the sled could crush her. Drift suffered an unfortunate fate too. When all the sleds tried jumping over a gap on the track, his went ride into the gap, and it tumbled down to the third level of elevation from the bottom. He was teleported as well. The last one to not finish the race was Chow, who accidentally hit Drift's sled on the track. It caused him to fly off the mountain. He survived too.
Of the four that finished the race, Willow came in last place. In fact, she was always slow from the start, but she was steady. She never went before anyone else at all. Fortunately, she was able to rank above half the others since they couldn't finish the race. But it was bad enough that she didn't get in the top three. Deli was lucky enough to make it in the top three. He was in third place. Pate got in second place. The winner of the Sledding Race was Julian. He was the seventh winner of the eight winter carnival contests.
Deli, Pate, and Julian went back to the hotel lodge to put up their prizes as only one contest remains.
