Stage 4 plaza tree not growing?!

I have had my town Ernbury now since March 2017. I don't time travel or leave my game open to get the extra hours as I prefer to do it naturally. My town tree is at stage 3. Yes, I am relaxing with this town and doing things slowly.
I have definitely played for 50 days and when I go onto the log it says I have played for 60.5 hours. So why has the tree not grown? I estimate that it took me roughly 7 hours to find my perfect map. 60.5-7=53.5 hours played?
Phineas gave me the 50 hours played badge a couple of days ago, so that pretty much confirms it right?
I'm just confused why the plaza tree hasn't turned into a stage 4 tree? Could anyone help?

I don't know if this is totally right but maybe in winter the tree did grow but you can't see it as well? I'm new and have no clue on what things work and which ones don't.

Yeah, maybe, but can't you sit on the stage 4 tree? I am unable to do so.

Actually... I looked at my log and I actually have 64 hours played (I guessed 60.5 as I knew it was just over 60 hours).

Ah it's fixed! In the morning it was a stage 3 tree and a couple hours later after posting I went back on ACNL and all the leaves had dropped of the tree making it a stage 4 tree. Which is quiet hilarious to be honest as suddenly the leaves all just disappeared.
